Boris Rubinsky

Professor at UC Berkeley since 1980. Resides in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Research in biomedical engineering.

Dr. Rubinsky's research interests include:
Heat and mass transfer in biomedical engineering and biotechnology in particular low temperature biology, bio-electronics and biomedical devices in particular micro and nano bionic technologies and electroporation, medical imaging in particular electrical impedance tomography and light imaging, biomedical numerical analysis in particular genetic and evolutionary algorithms and fractal techniques.

Syed Hassan Shah

Syed Hassan Shah is a Wi-Fi connectivity subject matter expert with the Qualcomm Inc. product management team, where he is involved in Consumer and Compute Wireless products with a focus on Mi-Fi, CPE, and UWB technologies. In addition to that, Dr. Shah is also an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Fullerton Campus, where he teaches computer science courses to graduate classes. Over the past decade, Dr. Shah held multiple industrial & academic roles such as a Product Specialist for Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), CBRS, Private LTE, Digital Electricity, and open RAN product lines. Dr. Shah was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Georgia Southern University, USA followed by a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, USA. Before moving to the United States, he completed his BS with honors in CS from Kohat University of Science & Technology (KUST), Pakistan, and his Ph.D. Degree (combined with Masters) from the School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE), Kyungpook National University (KNU), Republic of Korea (South Korea). During the summer of 2015, he was invited as a distinguished visiting researcher at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, USA to investigate MAC layer findings in IEEE 1609.4 protocol stacks. Overall, Dr. Shah has authored/co-authored over 250 peer-reviewed international publications including Journal articles, Conference Proceedings, Book Chapters, and 05 books. In 2016, his work on robust content retrieval in future vehicular networks won the Qualcomm Innovation Award at KNU, South Korea. Dr. Shah's research interests include Wireless and Ad hoc Networks, Cyber-Physical Systems, Smart Cities, Connected Vehicles, and Future Internet architectures.

Furthermore, Dr. Shah is a Senior IEEE and ACM member, served as a TPC Member or Reviewer in over 100 International Conferences and Workshops including IEEE Globecom, IEEE ICC, IEEE CCNC, IEEE ICNC, IEEE VTC, IEEE INFOCOM, ACM CoNEXT, ACM MobiHoc, ACM SAC, and many more. Furthermore, he has been reviewing papers for over 50 different International Journals including IEEE Magazines on Wireless Communications, Networks, Communications, IEEE Communications Letters, IEEE Sensors Letters, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, and Vehicular Technologies, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Big Data, and Mobile Computing. Moreover, Dr. Shah has been an editorial member of more than 60 Special Issues with top-ranked journals in Communication Society and served as an editorial board member of KSII Transactions on Internet & Information Systems, Wiley's Internet Technology Letters, Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies, IEEE Newsletters on Internet Initiative, Future Directions, and Software Defined Networks. Dr. Shah has been an appointee of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society as liaison to IEEE Young Professionals society for the year 2018-2019. Since 2018, he is also an ACM Distinguished Speaker.

Nuno A Silva

Nuno Silva completed his BSc in Applied Biology (2007) and received is PhD in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells from the University of Minho in 2012. His PhD work consisted on the development of novel approaches for Spinal Cord Injury Repair (SCI) based on biodegradable materials and stem cells. His PhD was carried out in the 3B’s Research Group and in the Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research of the University of Toronto. In 2012 he started a post-doc at ICVS dedicated to study the best therapeutic combination to treat the injured spinal cord.

In 2014 he was able to capture national competitive funding and started his own lab. Currently, his team is fully focused on research about SCI, from solving fundamental questions about how SCI affect the systemic immune response to design technological advanced therapies to treat this condition. The team is presently constituted by 1 post-doctoral fellows, 1 MD-PhD student and 5 PhD students.

He is currently an author of 44 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and is an author of two patents. Nuno Silva has currently more than 2700 citations and an h-index of 23. Additionally he is author of 7 book chapters and has more than 60 communications in national and international conferences. He supervises/supervised 25 post-graduation students. Finally, during his research career, Nuno Silva was able to capture more than two million euros of competitive funding, either in research projects (1.8M) or salary grants (438K). He was honored with international funding from the Wings For Life Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation.

Christina Smolke is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University.

Ana M Soto

Research interests: cell proliferation, breast and prostate cancer, endocrine disruptors. In collaboration with Dr. Sonnenschein she proposed the tissue organization field theory, which posits that cancer is a problem of tissue organization and that the default state of metazoan cells, like that of unicellular organisms, is proliferation. She also works on the clarification of epistemological issues arising from the study of complex biological phenomena.

João Paulo Mendes Tribst

Dr. Tribst is a passionate dentist with Master's and PhD in restorative dentistry, with a specialty in dental prosthesis, from São Paulo State University. He has experience in dentistry with an emphasis on dental materials, dental prosthesis, dental ceramics, finite element analysis, dental implants, and mouthguards. He completed a sandwich PhD at ACTA (Academisch Centrum Tandheelkunde Amsterdam), School of Dentistry at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, Netherlands from 09/2018 to 09/2019. He is an Assistant Professor in the Academisch Centrum Tandheelkunde Amsterdam (ACTA).

Marcus Fraga Vieira

Prof. Marcus Vieira is the Bioengineering and Biomechanics Laboratory head at Universidade Federal de Goiás. He received BS in Electrical Engineering and Physical Education from the Universidade Federal de Goiás, and MSc and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Universidade de São Paulo. He focuses his research in computational neuroscience and biomechanics, especially in motoneuron modeling, spinal CPG, nonlinear tools for movement variability analysis, including entropy, fractal dimension and recurrence analysis, coherence analysis in postural control, transitory tasks such as gait initiation, and gait dynamic stability.

Jincheng Wang

Dr. Jincheng Wang is a research fellow at global center for Biomedical Science and Engineering, Hokkaido University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Jincheng Wang worked as a hepatologist in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital for 3 years. He published 29 articles and obtained more than 10 patents (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9345-2388). His research interests are natural products, cancer treatment, radiomics, medical informatics and computational methods in personalized medicine.

Principal Investigator (Professor) Xiaohui Wang received his B.Eng. degree (Bioengineering) in 2004 from Beijing Technology and Business University. He got his PhD degree in Chemical Biology in 2010 from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) under the supervision of Prof. Xiaogang Qu. He was co-mentored by Associate Prof. Hang (Hubert) Yin (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the BioFrontiers Institute) and Distinguished Prof. Linda R. Watkins (Department of Psychology and Neuroscience and the Center for Neuroscience) at the University of Colorado at Boulder during his Post-Doc training. Since 2015, he starts his independent academic career.

Robert Winkler

Robert Winkler is Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Biochemical and Instrumental Analysis at the CINVESTAV Unidad Irapuato and faculty member for the postgraduate programs Plant Biotechnology and Integrative Biology. His research topics include novel mass spectrometry techniques such as low-temperature plasma ionization and covalent protein staining, new approaches in the high-throughput metabolomic profiling of plants, computational mass spectrometry and proteomics.
