Nicole L. Gottdenker
Nicole Gottdenker is a disease ecologist and wildlife pathologist. She studies the impact of anthropogenic environmental change on the ecology of multihost pathogens and the pathogen-wildlife-domestic animal community interactions.

Nicholas Geard
I am am a computer scientist with over 10 years experience in modelling the spread and control of infectious diseases. I obtained mys PhD in computer science from the University of Queensland in 2016. Following 3 years of postdoctoral research in the UK, I joined the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health in 2011, where I was awarded an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award. I joined the School of Computing and Information Systems in 2016, where I am an Associate Professor leading a group of 6 postdoctoral and PhD researchers. I am also Director of the Melbourne Data Analytics Platform (MDAP), a team of 20 data scientists who provide cross-disciplinary support on computing and data-intensive research across the University of Melbourne.
Tushar K. Dutta
I am a Senior Scientist at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, involved in pursuing basic and applied research in the field of Nematology and Entomology.
As an alternative to Bt Cry toxins for insect pest management, a number of novel bacterial protein toxins (Txp40, TcaB) derived from an insect-parasitic bacterium Photorhabdus akhurstii (symbiont of nematode Heterorhabditis indica) were characterized. The mode of action and pathogenesis process of these toxins were investigated in different lepidopteran insects including Galleria mellonella, Helicoverpa armigera, Spodoptera litura and S. exigua. The potential receptor proteins and their binding sites for these toxins were unravelled from the insect midgut epithelial cells.
My other research interests include molecular basis of plant-nematode interaction. Using RNAi, functional analysis of several plant parasitism processes was deciphered including the role of Mi-cpl-1 in metabolic process, FLP and NLP neuropeptides in neuromusculation process, ODR and TAX proteins in chemotaxis process, cell wall degrading enzymes and various MSP effectors in infection process of plant nematodes. I have contributed in understanding the genetic basis of nematode resistance in rice via genome-wide association mapping coupled with omics-driven strategies. I am currently pursuing genome editing research for developing nematode resistance by adopting CRISPR-Cas9 strategy in Arabidopsis, rice and tomato.

Debabrata Goswami
Dr. Debabrata Goswami is the Prof. S. Sampath Endowed Chair Professor of Chemistry and Adjunct Professor of Center for Lasers and Photonics of IIT Kanpur. He is the elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of Physics (UK), the Optical Society (OSA) and the SPIE. He is the winner of the 2018 Galileo Galilei Prize of the International Commission of Optics, the Thathachari Award, the Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowship, and the Swarnajayanti Fellow. He is the Vice President of the IEEE Photonics Society India, Past Chairman, Photonics-2016. He has written over 200 papers and was in the Editorial Board of the Rev of Scientific Reports (AIP).

Michael Beman
The overarching goal of my research program is to develop a predictive understanding of microbial ecology and biogeochemistry in the ‘Anthropocene’ sea. My research sits at the interface of microbial ecology, biogeochemistry, and global change science, and I work worldwide in reefs and estuaries, marine lakes and mountain lakes, and the open ocean. I focus on the responses of microbial communities, and the processes mediated by these communities, to environmental change—including climate change, ocean acidification, and ocean deoxygenation.
I received a B.S. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Stanford in Geological and Environmental Sciences; before joining the UC Merced faculty in 2009, where I was a postdoc in Marine Environmental Biology at USC, a lecturer at UCLA, and an Assistant Researcher at the University of Hawai’i. I am an Associate Professor and member of the Sierra Nevada Research Institute and the Environmental Systems and Quantitative and Systems Biology graduate groups.

Dr. Dominic Thorrington is Scientific Project Manager at the French healthcare regulator, La Haute Autorité de Santé.
He is an experienced health economist, infectious disease epidemiologist and mathematician, specialising in the modelling of infectious disease outbreaks and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of vaccination strategies.
Tianfeng Chai
Tianfeng Chai is an Associate Research Scientist at CICS-MD and the Department of Atmospheric & Oceanic Science, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, USA. He got his master and bachelor degrees from Tsinghua University in Beijing, majoring in Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, and Environmental Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa, with his dissertation of "Four-Dimensional Variational Data Assimilation Using Lidar Data" focusing on atmospheric boundary flow. He then worked with Dr. Greg Carmichael to develop chemical transport model adjoints and computational framework for data assimilation applications before moving to working on the NOAA National Air Quality Forecast Capability (NAQFC) project in 2007. He currently works on the inverse modeling problems using HYSPLIT (Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory Model) to support several projects at NOAA Air Resources Laboratory.
