Ana Teresa Teresa Lombardi

Ana Teresa Lombardi, professor of Plant Physiology and coordinator of the Biotechnology Laboratory at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar - Brazil). Member of the Brazilian Society of Ecotoxicology and SETAC. Visiting professor at the University of British Columbia (Canada) in 2008-2009. Graduated in Biological Sciences at UFSCar; Master in Ecology and Natural Resources Dalhousie University (Canada)/UFSCar (Brazil). PhD in Chemistry at UNICAMP (Brazil)/ Istituto di Biofisica (Italy). Postdoctoral at the Phycology Laboratory (UFSCar) and at the Biohydrometallurgy Laboratory (UNESP, Brazil).

My research interests are in the areas of Microalgae ecotoxicology and physiology (production of biomolecules, photochemistry of photosynthesis, fixation of CO2, effect of residues on algal physiology) related to contaminants; Environmental Chemistry specifically related to the interactions of metals and nanoparticles with microalgae.

Nicolas Mazzella

My work focuses on analytical chemistry with the development of methods for the analysis of organic micropollutants. I am also interested in passive sampling techniques to characterise the exposure of aquatic organisms (microalgae, biofilms).

In addition, I am carrying out analytical developments in the field of lipidomics to propose biomarkers of toxic effects in aquatic plants and marine or freshwater fish.

Grant B McClelland

Professor of Biology at McMaster University, President of the Canadian Society of Zoologists (2019-2020).

My research focuses on the ontogeny, phenotypic plasticity and evolution of muscle metabolism - important for locomotion, thermogenesis, and whole-body metabolic homeostasis. I use mechanistic and evolutionary physiology approaches, and take advantage of "experiments in nature" by studying species that thrive in extreme environments such as high altitude. I do applied research on the impacts of changing temperature, low oxygen, and pollution on the physiology of fishes.

Daniel C Moreira

My research interests lie in the area of redox processes in biology and medicine. My main line of work investigates the role and underlying mechanisms of redox metabolism (i.e., reactive species and endogenous antioxidants) in animals during the depression of metabolic rate induced by environmental stresses, including projects that examine the modulation of antioxidant systems in animals exposed to oxygen deprivation and during other situations of metabolic depression. More recently and concurrently, I am also involved in the prospection of bioactive natural compounds (e.g., peptides from amphibians, plant extracts and phytochemicals) for health applications, with emphasis on antioxidant molecules.

Monika Mortimer

Senior Researcher at the National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics, Tallinn, Estonia. Research interests and experience include ecotoxicology, environmental effects of engineered nanomaterials, fate and transport of contaminants of emerging concern, and microbiology.

Giribabu Nelli

Dr. Giribabu Nelli is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Physiology at Universiti Malaya.

Hi primary research areas include, Reproductive Biology, Diabetes and their complications, and Natural Products Research.

Jörg Oehlmann

Graduated as Dr. rer. nat. at University Münster in 1994. Habilitation at the International Graduate School Zittau in 1998. 2001-2004: Full professor (C3) for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Goethe University Frankfurt. Since 2004 full professor (C4) for Aquatic Ecotoxicology at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Head of the Department Aquatic Ecotoxicology and the Master's Programme in Environmental Sciences at Goethe University.

Primary research interests: Biological effects monitoring, endocrine active chemicals, pharmaceuticals and personal care products in the environment, effects of microplastics on aquatic organisms, development of an integrated water resource management.

Paripok Phitsuwan

Dr. Paripok Phitsuwan is Assistant Professor in the Division of Biochemical Technology at King Mongkut's Univeristy of Technology, Thonburi.

Dr. Phitsuwan's research focuses on biomass conversion and processing, particularly lignin valorization. He is interested in carbohydrate and lignin active enzymes and their applications in biotechnology-relevant industries and environmental remediation.

Beth Polidoro

Beth Polidoro is an Associate Professor of Environmental Chemistry and Marine Conservation, as well as serving as the Deputy Director for the Center for Biodiversity Outcomes at Arizona State University. Her primary research interests are in risk assessment and applied toxicology within the context of marine and freshwater biodiversity conservation, human health, and sustainable development. Dr. Polidoro has a broad background in the marine, chemical and environmental sciences. Before to coming to Arizona State University, she was a senior research associate with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), where she worked with scientists around the globe to quantify the impacts of anthropogenic threats on more than 20,000 marine species, for inclusion on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. She currently works on various marine and freshwater conservation initiatives and both ecological and human health risk assessments in the United States, Latin America, Africa and Oceania.

Alexandre J Poulain

Alexandre Poulain received his PhD in Biology from Université de Montréal (Canada), his MSc in aquatic toxicology and biogeochemistry from the INRS-Eau, Terre et Environnement from Quebec City (Canada) and his BSc in Environmental Sciences from Université d’Angers (France). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) where he learned about geobiology. His research investigates with how microbes control the mobility and toxicity of toxic metal(old)s in temperate and arctic environments.

Arnold Rakaj

Dr. Arnold Rakaj works at the Laboratory of Experimental Ecology and Aquaculture at the University of Rome Tor Vergata where is carrying out basic and applied research on marine invertebrates and their role in the benthic dynamics.
