Professor in Ecotechnology-Mid Sweden University (Jan/2008), Post-doc in Environmental Technologies-University of Kalmar (since 2010, Linnaeus University) (June/2006-Nov/2007), Docent competence from the Department of Water Environment Transport, Chalmers University of Technology (2005), PhD in Chemical Engineering- Royal Institute of Technology-KTH (2000), Sweden. Master of Science (1979) and BSc (cum laude, 1976) in Biology- Rio de Janeiro Federal University UFRJ. Currently, Assoc. Professor at the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, Rio de Janeiro State University UERJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Research topics: pollution abatement and remediation of contaminated areas including: biological, adsorption and advanced oxidation processes for the treatment of water and wastewater with focus on removal of target compounds including pharmaceuticals and endocrine disruptors; bioremediation/ phytoremediation of contaminated soils; ecological risk assessment.

Ad hoc reviewer for several scientific journals, head of the laboratory LABIFI and leader of the research group BioProcess, with more than 100 publications, including papers in peer-reviewed journals, in conferences, books and chapters of books. Supervisor for than 100 students including PhD, MSc and final graduation projects.
