Fabrizio Bianchi
I graduated at the University of Milan and obtained my PhD (Molecular and Cell Biology) degree while working at the FIRC Institute for Molecular Oncology (Milan, Italy) and then at Oxford University (Oxford, UK). I worked as postdoctoral fellow in Pier Paolo Di Fiore’s lab at IFOM, Milan, and then at the Program of Molecular Medicine of the European Institute of Oncology (Milan, Italy). Since 2016, I am the Head of the Cancer Biomarkers Unit at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (ISBReMIT) at Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza-IRCCS. I have several years of research experience in the field of cancer genomics and biomarkers development, particularly in the field of circulating miRNAs, cancer gene expression profile and computational biology. I have contributed to the identification of a serum circulating miRNA-signature for early detection of lung cancer, which was patented and transferred to a SME. I am an inventor in international patents regarding diagnostic and prognostic tools for lung cancer screening (US8747867B2; US20150057159A1; US20160068913A1). I am an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the Italian Society for Cancer Research (SIC) where I hold the position of secretary and member of director board.
Gorka Bidegain
Gorka Bidegain (GB) is a Senior Lecturer of the University of the Basque Country at the Department of Applied Mathematics. His main research interests lie within marine ecological and population dynamics modelling, including disease ecology and pathogen transmission. He conducts laboratory/field experiments and uses advanced mathematical and computational ecological modelling techniques to identify and asses the population and ecosystem responses to pressures and ecological and environmental heterogeneities. GB is developing new models, methodologies and algorithms with implications for the understanding of how climate variability interacts with marine populations and host-pathogen systems.
GB has participated in more than 20 national and international R&D competitive projects including three EU projects and three National Science Foundation (NSF). GB has published more than 25 articles in top rank peer reviewed journals, 3 book chapters, several scientific/technical reports and open access computer codes and Graphical User Interface for disease modelling (R, Matalab).
He is member of the Ecology of Infectious Marine Diseases Research Coordination Network (EIMD-RCN) (Cornell University, USA). He is also member of the Marine Biological Association and the Estuarine and Coastal Sciences Association
Rüdiger Bieler
Curator (research professor) in the Integrative Research Center, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago and Member of the Committee on Evolutionary Biology, University of Chicago
Research interests include evolutionary systematics, biogeography, comparative morphology, and taxonomy, with special focus on marine Mollusca, especially Gastropoda and Bivalvia. As a “museum person,” he is particularly interested in the development and application of organismal, collections-based research, ranging from extensive new field surveys and large-scale specimen and data management issues, to the integration of morphological, paleontological, and molecular data to address biological research questions. He recently served as lead PI of the Bivalve Assembling-the-Tree-of-Life (BivAToL.org) effort and is involved in coral reef restoration projects and associated invertebrate surveys in the Florida Keys. Past offices include service as president of the American Malacological Society and of the International Society of Malacology (Unitas), and he currently a member of the steering committee of WoRMS (marinespecies.org) and a chief editor in the MolluscaBase.org effort.

Kate N Bishop
Group Leader at The Francis Crick Institute from April 2015. Programme Leader and Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellow at National Institute for Medical Research in London, UK from end of 2008. Previously, Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow at King’s College London.
Kate Bishop received a first class (hon) BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Bath following two research placements; one at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden and the other at Chiron Corporation in San Francisco, USA.
After completing her PhD studies with Jonathan Stoye working on the retroviral restriction factor, Fv1, she undertook postdoctoral training with Michael Malim at King's College London, investigating the APOBEC family of retroviral restriction factors.
Kate was awarded a prestigious Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship in 2004 to continue her APOBEC research.

Kevin J. Black
I am a movement disorders neuropsychiatrist. My research is primarily focused on neuroimaging and dopamine, especially in people with Tourette syndrome and Parkinson disease. I have also developed methods for structural imaging volumetry, analysis of brain images in nonhuman species, pharmacological fMRI (phMRI), and statistical analysis of anatomy-function relationships in deep brain stimulation (DBS).
Julian Blasco
Dr Julian Blasco received his Ph.D. from the University of Seville (Chemistry). He is Scientist in the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia (ICMAN), belonging to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).He was Director of ICMAN-CSIC (2015-2023) and he is responsible of research group "Ecotoxicology, Ecophysiology and Biodiversity of Aquatic Systems". He has published more than 230 articles in SCI journals and has been editors of several books. He is a member of the editorial boards of several journals in marine and environmental sciences.

At CHORI, we use genomic strategies to investigate the role of genetic and epigenetic variation in the regulatory domain of the genome, with an interest in both human disease and evolution. The two main areas of interest of the lab are:The evolutionary biology and potential contribution to human disease of components of the epigenome. And, annotating the regulatory elements of the human genome using a combination of comparative analysis of sequenced vertebrate genomes and public epigenomic datasets.
Steven J Bograd
Dr. Steven Bograd is an oceanographer at NOAA’s Environmental Research Division in Monterey, California, and an Adjunct Faculty at the Department of Ocean Sciences, University of California-Santa Cruz. His research is focused on physical-biological interactions, eastern boundary current systems, climate variability, marine biologging, fisheries oceanography, and ecosystem-based management. He is currently involved in a number of research projects studying climate variability and its impacts on the marine ecosystems of the North Pacific Ocean. Steven was co-Principal Investigator of the Census of Marine Life’s Tagging of Pacific Predators (TOPP) program, and is currently an Editor-in-Chief at Fisheries Oceanography and co-chair of the PICES FUTURE Scientific Steering Committee. Steven received his PhD in Oceanography from the University of British Columbia in 1998, and held a post-doctoral fellowship at Scripps Institution of Oceanography before coming to NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center in 2001.
