Patrick Bergeron
Patrick Bergeron is an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bishop's University
His research centers around questions about the ecology, physiology and evolution of vertebrates. Under this large umbrella, work is separated into three main projects, on
Chipmunks, Humans and Wood frogs.
John A Berges
Professor in Biological Sciences and Freshwater Sciences. PhD Biological Oceanography, U. British Columbia. Postdoctoral work, Brookhaven National Laboratory. Fellow of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography. Research interests include marine and freshwater phytoplankton and zooplankton ecophysiology and biochemistry, including molecular (e.g. evolution of cell death proteases) and biomathematical (e.g. agent-based modelling) approaches.
Joanne Berghout
Dr. Berghout received her PhD in Biochemistry from McGill University in Montreal, QC where she researched the genetics of complex traits and susceptibility to infectious disease in humans and mouse models. Following that, she spent three years as the Outreach Coordinator for the Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) database in Bar Harbor, ME. There, she trained researchers in genetics, genomics, data structures and data mining to answer biological questions, and worked closely with other members of the MGI group to develop and optimize the MGI resource. Now her research interests include genetics of all kinds, personalized medicine, big data, and scientific communication. She is currently pursuing projects in precision medicine for analysis of transcriptome data from patients with rare lung diseases (Sarcoidosis, Coccidiomycosis), and integrative network analysis of complex traits including Alzheimer's Disease. She is currently appointed at the University of Arizona's Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics (CB2) and The Center for Genetics and Genomic Medicine (TCG2M) in Tucson, AZ.
Angelo F Bernardino
PhD in Biological Oceanography and Associate Professor of Oceanography at Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brazil. Interested in Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Deep-Sea Biology and Conservation, Estuarine ecology, Biological Oceanography, Climate change impacts on marine ecosystems.
Maurizio Bertollo
Maurizio Bertollo is Associate Professor of Motor Behaviour and Sport Psychology at “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara. He is affiliated with the Dept of Medicine and Aging Sciences, & currently serves as Vice-Director of the Behavioral Imaging and Neural Dynamics (BIND) Center.
Maurizio received his bachelor in Physical Education and Human Movement Science, followed by a master degree in Education (Pedagogy), a master degree in Psychology, and a doctoral degree in Sport Sciences. He also holds specializations in psychotherapy, developmental and learning disabilities, and sport psychology. Currently, he is a chartered psychologist and psychotherapist within the “Ordine Nazionale Psicologi” and member of the FEPSAC Managing council.
He has worked as a scientific consultant, psychologist, and/or coach for many Italian sports clubs, federations (e.g., Modern Pentathlon, Triathlon, Swimming, Rink Hockey, Soccer, Cycling, Track and Field, and Shooting) and for the National Olympic committee. Before moving to the University, he was also PE teacher, School Psychologist and Headmaster.
His research activity focuses on the processes and mechanisms underlying the development, maintenance and improvement of human motor behaviour and performance. Current research interests include Bio-psycho-physiological state underpinning performance, Individual Zones of Optimal Functioning, Stress recovery-balance in sport, Psychophysiological monitoring & intervention in sport.
Michela Bertolotto
Dr Michela Bertolotto obtained her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Genova (Italy). She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Computer Science, University College Dublin.
Her main interests are in Spatial Information Systems and Science.
Johan Paul Beukes
Paul Beukes (JP Beukes) is full professor in Chemistry at the North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, South Africa. He received his PhD (Chemistry) in 1999 from the then Pothefstroom University for CHE. Paul worked in the metallurgical industry for almost a decade after completing his PhD, holding various senior positions such a production manager and operations manager at large ferrochromium smelters. In late 2007 he returned to academia and is currently co-managing the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group (ACRG) and Chromium Technology Groups (CTG) at the NWU. The ACRG focuses mostly on in situ ambient atmospheric measurements, but research related to laboratory investigations, satellite observations and modelling is also conducted, while the CTG concentrate on metallurgical process improvements with associated atmospheric and/or other environmental co-benefits, e.g. reduced energy consumption, smaller carbon footprint and reduced water pollution. Paul is a South African National Research Foundation (NRF) rated scientist and serves on many advisory boards for industry, government and academia. Probably the most noteworthy panel that he is currently serving on is the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) scientific steering committee (SSC).
Anindita Bhadra
Anindita is a behavioural biologist, working on free-ranging dogs in India. She founded The Dog Lab at the Department of Biological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata in June 2009. The research group focuses on questions pertaining to the ecology, behaviour and cognition of FRDs, and they are interested in understanding the evolution of the dog-human relationship. Anindita is interested in science education, outreach and policy and engages through multiple platforms with the scientific community at large and the public.
Soumendranath Bhakat
I’m a thinker musing between science, society, music & food. I have completed my doctoral study from Lund University, Sweden where work revolved around understanding the role of water molecule in protein-ligand binding and understanding the role of aromatic ring flipping & transient loop opening in protein dynamics using molecular dynamics simulation and enhanced sampling. During my Postdoctoral research at University of Pennsylvania, USA on kinetics and thermodynamics associated with aromatic ring flip mediated cryptic pocket opening in biomolecules using Markov state modeling & enhanced sampling. Currently I am a Senior Scientist at Redesign Science working in the interface of molecular simulation and machine learning.
Rajesh Bhardwaj
Dr. Rajesh Bhardwaj is a senior research fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina, USA. He is skilled in combining molecular and structural biology techniques as well as pharmacological and computational approaches with state-of-the-art high-throughput screening to dissect the gating and regulatory molecular mechanisms of calcium channels, calcium sensors and solute carrier family transporters. His research interests include studying calcium signaling in health and disease with a focus on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane contact sites with plasma membrane and mitochondria.
Siddhartha Bhattacharyya
Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharyya is currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Christ University, Bangalore. He is a co-author of 5 books and the co-editor of 60 books and has more than 300 research publications in international journals and conference proceedings to his credit. He has got two PCTs to his credit. He has been a member of the organizing and technical program committees of several national and international conferences.
His research interests include hybrid intelligence, pattern recognition, multimedia data processing, social networks and quantum computing.
Fabrizio Bianchi
I graduated at the University of Milan and obtained my PhD (Molecular and Cell Biology) degree while working at the FIRC Institute for Molecular Oncology (Milan, Italy) and then at Oxford University (Oxford, UK). I worked as postdoctoral fellow in Pier Paolo Di Fiore’s lab at IFOM, Milan, and then at the Program of Molecular Medicine of the European Institute of Oncology (Milan, Italy). Since 2016, I am the Head of the Cancer Biomarkers Unit at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (ISBReMIT) at Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza-IRCCS. I have several years of research experience in the field of cancer genomics and biomarkers development, particularly in the field of circulating miRNAs, cancer gene expression profile and computational biology. I have contributed to the identification of a serum circulating miRNA-signature for early detection of lung cancer, which was patented and transferred to a SME. I am an inventor in international patents regarding diagnostic and prognostic tools for lung cancer screening (US8747867B2; US20150057159A1; US20160068913A1). I am an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the Italian Society for Cancer Research (SIC) where I hold the position of secretary and member of director board.
