Ignacio Arganda-Carreras

Ignacio Arganda-Carreras (Madrid, 1980) is a European PhD in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications by the Autonomous University of Madrid and holds a BSc in Computer Engineering from the same university. He took postdoctoral studies at the department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2009 to 2013 and at the Jean-Pierre Bourgin Institute of the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, Versailles, from 2013 to 2015.

During his doctorate studies he carried out research stays at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley (California, 2002-2004), at the Centre for Machine Perception of the Technical University of Prague (2005) and at the Applied Medical Research Centre of the University of Navarra in Pamplona (2006). He has worked as a consultant for the Max Planck Institute of Cellular Biology and Genetics in Dresden (2009) and for the Institute of Neuroinformatics in Zurich (2009).

Since September 2015 he is an Ikerbasque Research Fellow at the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the University of the Basque Country.

Nuri Azbar

Professor andFormer Chairman of the Bioengineering Department and Former Director of the Center for Environmental Sciences at Ege University (EGE CEVMER).

Research areas include Biofuels (biohydrogen, biomethane, bioethanol), valorization of waste organic material using biorefinery concept (biopolymer production), bioseparation, application of the industrial ecology concept in industry and environmental friendly production.

Luisa Azevedo

Researcher at the Population Genetics and Evolution group at i3S and invited assistant professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. Scientific topics include molecular basis of phenotype-genotype relationships, mechanisms underlying epistatic interactions under the compensatory mutation model, and the dynamics involved in the amino acid substitution at the protein structural level.

Vasco Azevedo

Professor of Genetics and Deputy Head of the Department of Genetics, Ecology and Evolution. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and is a Knight of the National Order of Scientific Merit of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Researcher 1A of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) which is the highest position.

Ramy K Aziz

I am a Professor and Chair, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. I am interested in microbiome research, pharmacomicrobiomics, evolution and emergence microbial pathogenesis and resistance, microbial and phage genomics, antibiotic resistance surveillance, adaptive laboratory evolution, metabolic reconstruction and pathway gap filling, and virulence gene discovery.

My Ahmed Said Azizi Samir

Dr. Azizi Samir is manager at “Nanocomposites & Bioconcepts”, a company focusing on new innovative projects in green chemistry, environment and biomaterial sciences. After earning his PhD at the University of Joseph Fourier Grenoble 1, he accepted a position as researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH Stockholm Sweden. Dr. Azizi Samir works on biopolymer nanocomposites and has published two patents and many scientific papers.

Thomas Backhaus

Professor for Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, with a main interest in regulatory (eco)toxicology and risk assessment of complex exposure situations.

Nicholas A Badcock

Nicholas Badcock completed a MPsych/Phd in Applied Developmental Psychology with John Hogben and Jan Fletcher at the University of Western Australia in 2008. After a postdoc at The University of Oxford with Dorothy Bishop focussed on the lateralisation of language processing using functional transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, he returned to Australia, joining the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders at Macquarie University working with Genevieve McArthur on attention and reading. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at The University of Western Australia in Perth.

Elena E Bagley

Dr Bagley is a Associate Professor in the Discipline of Pharmacology at the University of Sydney.

A/Prof Bagley completed a PhD at the University of Sydney in 2001. She was a C.J Martin Fellow from 2001 to 2006. During this time she was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Professor Gary Westbrook at the Vollum Institute (Oregon, USA) and at the Pain Management Research Institute (University of Sydney).

Dr Bagley began developing her research laboratory at the Brain and Mind Institute (2010-2011) and then moved to Pharmacology in 2011.
