Claus O Wilke

Professor and Department Chair, Department of Integrative Biology, The University of Texas at Austin. Received his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Bochum, Germany, in 1999. Postdoc at Caltech, 2000-2005.

Katherine L Wilson

Katherine Wilson grew up in the Pacific Northwest (Tacoma, Washington). She earned her BS in microbiology at the University of Washington (Seattle) and her PhD in genetics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and began exploring nuclear structure as a postdoctoral fellow at UCSD. Now a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, she and her lab study the functional biochemistry and regulation of nuclear lamina proteins (emerin, lamins, BAF) to understand laminopathy disease.

Robert Winkler

Robert Winkler is Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Biochemical and Instrumental Analysis at the CINVESTAV Unidad Irapuato and faculty member for the postgraduate programs Plant Biotechnology and Integrative Biology. His research topics include novel mass spectrometry techniques such as low-temperature plasma ionization and covalent protein staining, new approaches in the high-throughput metabolomic profiling of plants, computational mass spectrometry and proteomics.

G. William Wong

Dr. G. William Wong is Professor of Physiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research focuses on mechanisms governing metabolic homeostasis, function of adipose-and skeletal muscle-derived hormones, and mechanisms of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

He received in B.S. from Washington State University and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2000. Dr. Wong completed post-doctoral work in biochemistry, cell biology, and physiology at M.I.T’s Whitehead Institute from 2001 - 2007. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2008.

Dr. Wong’s lab seeks to understand mechanisms employed by cells and tissues to maintain metabolic homeostasis and is currently addressing how adipose- and skeletal muscle-derived hormones (adipokines and myokines), discovered in his lab, regulate tissue crosstalk and signaling pathways to control energy metabolism.

Jang-Yen J.Y. Wu

Senior Schmidt Fellow and Distinguished Professor, Department of Biomedical Science of Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University. Recipient of Award in Science and Technology of Taiwanese-American Foundation in 2005. Associate Editor of Journal of Biomedical Science.

Pranjal Yadava

Dr. Pranjal Yadava is Senior Scientist at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He works in the area of agricultural biotechnology.

Guangdong Yang

Dr. Yang’s research focuses on a group of gasotransmitters, especially H2S, in the regulation of cellular functions and human diseases. Dr. Yang has received numerous awards and recognitions, including New Investigator award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and Maureen Andrew Award from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. In his career, Dr. Yang has published ~100 peer-reviewed research articles, some of them published in high-impact journals, including as Science, Circulation, PNAS, and EMBO report etc. Their total citations are 7,481 (September 24, 2018).

Humaira Yasmin

Dr Humaira Yasmin is tenured Associate professor (TTS) within the Department of Biosciences, COMSATS University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Her research interests include plant-microbe interactions, plant stress physiology, biofertilizers technology, soil microbiology, crop pathology, plant protection, plant biochemistry and molecular biology, medicinal plants, environmental microbiology, and agricultural nanotechnology. Dr Yasmin's research focuses on understanding the detailed biochemical mechanisms adapted by crops when exposed to biotic (fungal/ bacterial) pathogens, abiotic stresses (drought, salinity, heavy metals and heat). She is also investigating various eco-friendly and economic solutions to reduce the adverse impacts of environmental stresses on economically important crops. The techniques studied include isolation, characterization and mode of action of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Green synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles from medicinal plants and their application in agriculture to alleviate different stresses. Application of growth regulators (hormones (GA, ABA, SA, BS etc.), chelators (Oxalic acid, mellic acid etc.) and other chemical compounds to increase plant protection. Moreover, synergistic effects of the above mentioned solutions are also under consideration.

Barbara Zambelli

Barbara Zambelli graduated cum laude in Biotechnology in 2002 at the University of Bologna. She carried out her pre-doctoral research activity at the Department of Agro-Environmental Science and Technology, under the supervision of Prof. S. Ciurli, studying the biochemical and structural properties of proteins involved in intracellular nickel trafficking. She obtained the Ph.D. degree at the University of Bologna in 2006. As a Ph.D. student, she spent few months working at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Gent (Belgium), under the supervision of Prof. Jozef Van Beeumen. In 2005 she was awarded an EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) Short Term Fellowship, to visit the EMBL of Hamburg and to do research - crystallization experiments of metallo-proteins - under the supervision of Dr. Paul Tucker. From 2006 to 2008 she carried out a post-doctoral work within the project “Intracellular nickel trafficking through the interactions with specific nickel-chaperones”. From November 2008, she is Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology of the University of Bologna.
Her research work is focused on the structural and molecular properties of proteins involved in metal homeostasis. In particular, she is interested in the proteins involved in the regulation of nickel metabolism, at the level of transcription and of post-translation.

Janos Zempleni

The Willa Cather Professor of Molecular Nutrition at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Director of the Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics. Funded by NIH and NIFA/USDA. Member of AAAS, American Society for Nutrition, American Society of Physiology, Society for Experiemental Biology and Medicine, Sigma Xi, and Gamma Sigma Delta. Research interest in nutritional epigenetics, gene regulation, cell differentiation, and genome stability.

Lin Zhang

Dr. Lin Zhang is Associate professor within the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, Wuhan, China.

His research interests focus on:

1)How ectotherms (with tropical lizard as subject) linking bioenergetics and overwintering strategy during global warming
2)Macro-evolution including activity, metabolism and reproduction in squamate
