Andrea Cucco

Andrea Cucco is a scientist in physical oceanography at the Institute of Coastal Marine Environment of the Italian National Research Council. He is focused on numerical modeling and, specifically, on the development and application of hydrodynamic and environmental models based on the finite elements methods. His research activity and scientific production is highly interdisciplinary and related to several aspects of the oceanography including the reproduction of the sea currents and wind waves in coastal and near-shore areas, the transport and diffusion processes occurring at the sea surface as well the interactions between the physical environment and the marine ecosystem. He is involved in several research initiatives aimed to predict the risk and the danger coming from the potential and accidental release of hydrocarbons in the marine environment. PhD in Marine Environmental Science at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, Member of IAPSO from 2016.

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Improvement, Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The influence of habitat factors (with special emphasis on light, drought, salt and PAH’ contamination etc.) on the status and the development of plants and unicellular organism is the basic interest that affected the scope of my research activity. In my career I focused on determination of photosynthetic apparatus responses by chlorophyll fluorescence (prompt fluorescence, delayed fluorescence) and gas exchange analysis.

Dr. Carlos Eduardo de Rezende is a Full Professor in the Environmental Sciences Laboratory of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Center at the North Fluminense State University (UENF). Prof. Rezende is a senior researcher from the Brazilian National Council for Science and Technology (CNPq) (Level 1B), Scientist of Rio de Janeiro state from Foundation for Science Development (FAPERJ) and coordinator of the Future Earth Coasts in South America. Dr. Rezende has a professional experience including studies on the dynamics in continental aquatic environments (e.g.: rivers, lakes), terrestrial and coastal ecosystems (e.g., estuaries, mangroves and lagoons) and ocean. At UENF, Prof. Rezende held various institutional leadership roles (e.g., Vice-Rector, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Center Director and Head of Environmental Sciences Laboratory), and he has participated in several boards and councils. Actually, Prof. Rezende is conducting studies on Hg and inorganic (e.g.: Al, Fe, Mn, carbonate) and organic geochemical supports (e.g. elemental and isotopic composition) as well as their ecosystem interactions; use of molecular markers (e.g., lignin phenols, carbon black) as geochemical tools to enhance the understanding on the alterations of biogeochemical cycles in the transition between terrestrial and aquatic environments.

Damien P. Debecker is Associate Professor at the UCLouvain (Belgium), teaching physical chemistry, process engineering, principles of biorefining, and industrial waste treatment. His research group aims at developing new heterogeneous catalysts and biocatalysts, paving the way to the design of more sustainable chemical processes. At the interface between green chemistry, materials chemistry, biochemistry and chemical engineering, his expertise lies in the preparation of innovative solid (bio)catalysts and in their evaluation in relevant reaction conditions. Catalyst preparation methods include the aerosol-assisted sol-gel, emulsion-templating, non-hydrolytic sol-gel, colloidal methods, enzyme immobilization. Targeted applications cover biomass upgrading, volatile organic compounds total oxidation, biocatalyzed organic synthesis, CO2 methanation, olefin metathesis, etc.

Prof. André Ricardo Fajardo is graduated in Chemistry (2007), M.Sc. (2009) and Ph.D. (2013) degrees in Chemistry at Maringá State University (Brazil). Ph.D. with a sandwich period at CERMAV (Grenoble-France, 2012-2013). Currently, he is Professor at Universidade Federal Pelotas (Brazil). Research-leader in the Laboratory of Technology and Development of Composites and Polymeric Materials (LaCoPol). He is the author of more than 80 papers with IF and his main research interests include polymer chemistry, polymeric biomaterials, polymeric composites, natural polymers, hydrogels, and absorbent materials.

Carlos Fernández Marcos

Carlos F. Marcos holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Santiago of Compostela, where he specialized in chemistry of heterocycles and total synthesis of natural products. He completed his training on the chemistry of the organometallic compounds at the University of Milan and at the Imperial College London, where he was awarded with a grant of the Human Capital and Mobility programme of the European Community.
In 1996 he joined the University of Extremadura, where he started a line of research on new sulfur heterocyclic materials, in collaboration with professors Charles Rees (Imperial College) and Tomás Torroba (UEx). From 2002, he leads a research group involved in the development of new synthetic methodologies. Throughout his career, he has supervised many research studies and has more than 50 publications indexed in frontline scientific journals. He has also made several stays as visiting professor in prestigious American and European research centres. From 2016, it holds a position as Full Professor at the University of Extremadura.
In recent years his research has focused in the chemistry of isocyanides, and especially their use to develop new tandem and multi-component processes. These synthetic strategies have proved to be a very advantageous approach to obtain organic materials with new properties, as well as compounds with biomedical interest.

Dr. Junkuo Gao is professor at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, China. He obtained his PhD in Zhejiang University, China in 2010. Then, he worked at Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) as a postdoctor. In 2013, he joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University as Distinguished professor of Zhejiang Province, director of Institute of New Energy Fiber Materials. His research interest is metal-organic frameworks based nanomaterials for clean energy and green chemistry applications. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Small, Coord. Chem. Rev., J. Mater. Chem. A etc. with more than 8900 citations and a H-index of 49.

Prof. Gavrilescu is the Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Engineering and Management Journal (EEMJ) edited under the aegis of “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi Romania, and included in relevant international databases. The impact factor (Thomson Reuters) ISI in 2016 is 1.098, according to Journal Citation Reports.
The scientific visibility is illustrated by over 2800 citations (WOS h-index 25, Scopus h-index 25).

I am an Associate Professor and Head at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, and the director of the Natural Resources and Environmental Research Center at the University of Haifa in Israel. I am an alumnus of the Global Young Academy. I received a PhD in Analysis and Governance of Sustainable Development from the University of Venice (Italy) in 2008. An environmental engineer by training, my research spans over a range of fields including the valuation and mapping of ecosystem services and the passive crowdsourcing of social media data in environmental research. I have published >50 peer-reviewed scientific articles and contributed to high-profile international initiatives such as TEEB-The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, the UNEP/GEF Project for Ecosystem Services (ProEcoServ), and the Ecosystem Service Partnership.
