Antonio Guilherme Basso Pereira is a professor at Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR). He has a B.S. (2005), M.Sc (2008) and Ph.D (2013) degree in chemistry from Maringa State University (Brazil). Part of his PhD research was performed at University of California, Davis (UC Davis, 2011-2012). The main research goal is to add value to under used natural polymers, generally, but not only, found as agricultural wastes, to produce polymeric devices for environmental, biomedical and other applications.
Tanya Camacho-Villegas is a Researcher for Mexico in the Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Unit, CIATEJ, A.C., located in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico (2014-present). She is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers level I. She works in recombinant protein design, cloning, and production (batch and bioreactor scale). She specializes in phage display for isolating single-domain antibodies such as vNAR´s or peptide isolation with diagnostic applications. Recently, she used the vNAR as an immuno-carrier for NPs for theranostics applications for breast cancer and glioblastomas as models.
She has received a BSc in Biology from the Science Faculty, UABC (2004) and a Marine Biotechnology MSc in CICESE (2007) focusing on the selection and validation of vNARs with anti-cytokines properties as candidates for TNFalpha and VEGF165 neutralizing in humans disorders.
She has received a PhD in Molecular Ecology and Biotechnology from the Marine Science Faculty at UABC (2012). She received a distinction in the Ph.D. dissertation
and fellowships from CONAHCYT for MSc, Ph.D., and Postdoc studies. She was the leader of four projects related to biotechnology companies. She was the author of patents related to vNAR as anti-cytokines or immuno-carriers for drug delivery.
Dr. Cui is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research is focused on the development of electrode materials for energy storage applications. He is also interested in applying first-principles calculations and in-situ TEM to study the thermodynamics and kinetics of battery materials.
Damien P. Debecker is Associate Professor at the UCLouvain (Belgium), teaching physical chemistry, process engineering, principles of biorefining, and industrial waste treatment. His research group aims at developing new heterogeneous catalysts and biocatalysts, paving the way to the design of more sustainable chemical processes. At the interface between green chemistry, materials chemistry, biochemistry and chemical engineering, his expertise lies in the preparation of innovative solid (bio)catalysts and in their evaluation in relevant reaction conditions. Catalyst preparation methods include the aerosol-assisted sol-gel, emulsion-templating, non-hydrolytic sol-gel, colloidal methods, enzyme immobilization. Targeted applications cover biomass upgrading, volatile organic compounds total oxidation, biocatalyzed organic synthesis, CO2 methanation, olefin metathesis, etc.
Prof. André Ricardo Fajardo is graduated in Chemistry (2007), M.Sc. (2009) and Ph.D. (2013) degrees in Chemistry at Maringá State University (Brazil). Ph.D. with a sandwich period at CERMAV (Grenoble-France, 2012-2013). Currently, he is Professor at Universidade Federal Pelotas (Brazil). Research-leader in the Laboratory of Technology and Development of Composites and Polymeric Materials (LaCoPol). He is the author of more than 80 papers with IF and his main research interests include polymer chemistry, polymeric biomaterials, polymeric composites, natural polymers, hydrogels, and absorbent materials.
Dr. Junkuo Gao is professor at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, China. He obtained his PhD in Zhejiang University, China in 2010. Then, he worked at Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) as a postdoctor. In 2013, he joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University as Distinguished professor of Zhejiang Province, director of Institute of New Energy Fiber Materials. His research interest is metal-organic frameworks based nanomaterials for clean energy and green chemistry applications. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Small, Coord. Chem. Rev., J. Mater. Chem. A etc. with more than 8900 citations and a H-index of 49.
Thomas completed his PhD from Harvard University in 2015 under Prof. David Weitz and postdoctoral studies from University of Amsterdam with Prof. Peter Schall. He is currently an assistant professor in the Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter laboratory at Wageningen University & Research in The Netherlands having joined in 2017.
Dr. Jui-Yang Lai received his Ph.D. from the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Since 2014, he is a Full Professor at Chang Gung University, Taiwan. Dr. Lai’s primary research activities are centered on the design and development of functional biomaterials, either from natural or synthetic sources, for ophthalmic use, particularly on tissue engineering, drug delivery, and nanomedicine. His major research projects involve ocular biocompatibility assessment, corneal/retinal cell construct fabrication, topical/intraocular pharmaceutical dosage formulation, and metallic/carbon-based nanotherapeutics evaluation. Dr. Lai has published more than 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and filed numerous patent applications. He actively participates in the peer review process for scientific publications and also serves as a member of the editorial board of several scholarly journals.
Zhiqiang Li was born in Shandong, China, in 1985. He obtained his PhD degree from Nankai University under the guidance of Prof. Yu Liu in 2014. Then he joined School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Hebei University of Technology. He was promoted as an Associate Professor in 2016. His current research interest is soft luminescent materials by integrating lanthanide complexes and matrices; Molecular recognition utilizing functional macrocycles
Pawel L. Urban received his MSc degree in biology from the University of Warsaw in 2002, and PhD degree in chemistry from the University of York in 2008. He conducted research stays in the University of Alcala, University of Warsaw, and ETH Zurich. The Urban’s laboratory was initially located in the National Chiao Tung University; then moved to the National Tsing Hua University. The team focuses on the development of enabling technologies for chemistry research and clinical analysis, their applications, as well as fundamental studies.
Dr. Wallen earned a B.S. and Ph.D. from the Univ. of Illinois. He studied supercritical fluids at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory using a variety of spectroscopic techniques including NMR, XAFS, Raman and FTIR spectroscopy. The author of over 50 refereed papers his work has been highlighted in Science and C&E News. He has served as a reviewer for top journals and government science panels. Dr. Wallen is currently working in the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. His research interests are on the development/implementation of green nanotechnology, chemistry and sustainable processes applied to materials synthesis, remediation, recycling and chemical analysis. Projects converting biomass to carbon quantum dots for sensing and electronics; nanophotocatalytic oxidation of wastewater; and use of carbohydrates (biogenic materials) for nanomaterials preparation are ongoing as are development of microvolume, high-pressure continuous flow systems (HP-CFS) to prepare and analyze functional, sustainable nanomaterials. He recently developed the concept of a circular economy paradigm for implementing university science laboratories which led to an Award for Innovation in 2016 by the Campus Safety, Health & Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA). At the 21st Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference Dr. Wallen won the 2017 Applied Separations Prime Grant for commitment to teaching Supercritical Fluids. In his spare time he enjoys his family, playing music and outdoor activities.
