Maria J. Sanz

Professor Sanz is the Scientific Director of the Basque Centre of Climate Change. Her own research agenda focuses on effective land use decisions, the optimal allocation of land resources for sustainable and efficient development.

She was at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as the UNREDD Programme Coordinator (2012-2016), Director of the International Institute for Climate Change (I2C2, 2011-2012) and a Senior Officer at the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC) supporting Land Use, land Use Change and Forestry, Agriculture and REDD+ negotiations up to 2007-2011.

Before 2007, she was Director of the Air Pollution Effects and Atmospheric Chemistry Programmes at the Center for Environmental Studies of the Mediterranean, and adviser to the Spanish Minister of Environment. She was a Lead Author of Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change, and Lead Author of the IPCC Methodological Guidance documents since 2003.

She holds a PhD in Biology by the University of Valencia, and worked extensively in Air Pollution, Carbon Cycles and Climate Change feed-backs in the Mediterranean Regions after she ended her post-Doctoral studies at the Arizona State University.

Timothy D Scheibe

Laboratory Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and Lead Scientist at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), a scientific user facility located at PNNL. Research interests emphasize coupled hydrologic and biogeochemical processes as they control water quality, ecosystem health, and contaminant transport and fate. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to perform integrated computational and experimental research across a wide range of physical scales from molecules and cells to aquifers and watersheds. Was selected by the National Ground Water Association to serve as the 2010 Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer, in which role he presented 65 invited lectures across North America and Europe.

Erik R Seiffert

Erik Seiffert's research is focused on the phylogenetic relationships, adaptations, and historical biogeography of mammals, with an emphasis on the endemic placental mammals of Africa and Arabia. He has a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley (1995), an M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin (1998), and a Ph.D. from Duke University (2003). He was previously Lecturer in Palaeobiology and Palaeoenvironments at University of Oxford and Curator of Geological Collections at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History (2004-2007), Assistant and Associate Professor of Anatomical Sciences at Stony Brook University (2007-2016), and is now a Professor of Integrative Anatomical Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (2016-Present). He is also a Research Associate at the Duke Lemur Center's Division of Fossil Primates and in the Department of Mammalogy, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Tanvir Shahzad

Dr. Tanvir Shahzad is an Associate Professor at the Government College University, Faisalabad. He is an environmental scientist with a PhD in Agronomy, Ecology, Biogeochemistry from AgroParisTech.

Dr. Shahzad's research focuses on the intersections of soil biology, soil ecology, and use and assessment of nanomaterials for the benefit and sustainability of soils, more specifically, he is currently working on making Pakistan's soils sustainable.

Mark M Smits

Lector (lecturer) at HAS University of Applied Sciences in the fields of biology, soil science and data analysis. Previously worked as postdoc at Hasselt University, Lund University and University of Sheffield. PhD in soil science and geology at Wageningen University.

Jacyra Soares

Degree in Meteorology from University of São Paulo (1983), Master in Oceanography (Physical Oceanography) from University of São Paulo (1989) and PhD from University of Southampton, England (1994). In 1995 held postdoctoral activities in the Oceanographic Institute at USP. Experience in Physical Oceanography and Meteorology, with emphasis on numerical modelling and in situ observations of air-sea interaction (oceanic and atmospheric turbulence) and micrometeorology (Planetary boundary layer, turbulence, radiation and energy balances, turbulent fluxes). Study of the atmosphere and ocean in Equatorial and Antarctic regions.

Heidi Steltzer

Environmental scientist, explorer and science storyteller. She researchers how environmental changes affect mountain watersheds and the Arctic system, and their links to human well-being. She is an Associate Professor of Biology, Fort Lewis College. She is on the leadership team for Homeward Bound, an organization developing leadership for women in STEM. Founder of the Colorado Mountain Center. member American Geophysical Union.

Scott Veirs

Oceanographer and bioacoustician facilitating the recovery of endangered regional icons of the Pacific Northwest (U.S.), particularly southern resident killer whales and Pacific salmon. I helped design and was the first major in the Earth Systems program at Stanford University, then earned a M.S. and PhD in Oceanography at the University of Washington. In 2003 I founded Beam Reach and taught ~50 undergraduates and recent graduates to ask and answer their own marine field science questions during 10-week field courses from 2005-2012. During the same period I helped create the Salish Sea Hydrophone Network -- orcasound.net -- which I continue to administer.

Full professor, Biological Sciences Department, Los Andes University. Vice dean for Research Affairs, School of Sciences. Past coordinator for the Microbiology program.

Maarten J. Waterloo

PhD in water and nutrient cycling of pine plantation forests in Fiji. Specialised in the science of climate and land use change in relation to their impacts on surface and ground water hydrology and biogeochemical cycles. Expert in tropical natural and plantation forest ecohydrology, micro-meteorology, catchment hydrology, hydrochemistry and agricultural hydrology. Involved in a teaching a wide range of environmental water-related courses at BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

Andrew J Weightman

Professor of Microbiology and Division Leader (Organisms & Environment) at Cardiff University, School of Biosciences
