Alberto Davalos
Group leader of the Epigenetics of Lipid Metabolism Group, IMDEA Food Institute, Dr. Alberto Dávalos holds a degree in Pharmacy and Biochemistry by San Marcos University (Lima) and a PhD in Pharmacy by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Madrid).
He has conducted postdoctoral research at the Hospital Ramón y Cajal (Madrid), at Yale University School of Medicine, (New Haven), and at New York University School of Medicine (New York). Dr. Dávalos’s research program focuses in identifying and characterizing new noncoding RNAs (miRNAs, lncRNAs and other type of regulatory RNAs) that regulate lipid metabolism and the effects of minor dietary components (micronutrients) on their expression.
G Matt Davies
I am Assistant Professor of Soil and Plant Community Restoration in OSU's School of Environment and Natural Resources. My research focuses on developing methods for the restoration and management of ecosystem properties and functions including vegetation community composition, habitat structure, fire regimes and carbon and nutrient cycling. Current research sites include temperate, semi-arid and tropical ecosystems.
Melissa J Davis
Associate Professor Melissa Davis is a computational biologist and Laboratory Head in the Bioinformatics Division of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. Her background is in genetics and computational cell biology with expertise in the analysis of genome-scale molecular networks, systems biology, and knowledge-based modelling of regulatory networks.
In 2014, Melissa was awarded a four year National Breast Cancer Foundation Career Development Fellowship, and took up a position as Senior Research Fellow in Computational Systems Biology at the University of Melbourne, before moving to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research as a Laboratory Head in 2016. Melissa specialises in the integration of genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data with knowledge-based network models to understand the regulatory logic of mammalian systems.
Joshua S Davis
Josh is a clinician researcher, and divides his time between clinical work as an Infectious Diseases physician in Newcastle, and research work as a principal research fellow based at Menzies.
He completed his clinical infectious diseases training in 2004, and then worked on a PhD from 2007-2010 on the epidemiology, pathophysiology and adjunctive treatment of sepsis in the Top End of the Northern Territory (NT).
His main clinical interests are general infectious diseases, viral hepatitis, refugee health and infections in the critical care setting. His main research interests are clinical trials in the management of severe infections and epidemiology of severe bacterial infections.
Josh is the past president of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) and is a career development fellow of Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council. In the 10 years since completing his PhD, he has over 140 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 31.
Kenneth De Baets
I am a paleobiologist. My main research focuses on reproductive strategies and macroevolution, particularly on the relative contributions of biotic interactions (e.g., parasitism) and abiotic factors (e.g., climate) in driving these large-scale patterns. Other interests are quantitative methods to study biostratigraphy, intraspecific variability and paleobiology in general. My main tools for these purposes are invertebrates, mainly ammonoids (extinct cephalopods) and parasitic flatworms.
Carlos de Noronha
Dr. Carlos de Noronha is Associate Professor within the Department of Immunology and Microbial Disease at Albany Medical College, USA.
His research focus is in the field of Microbiology, more specifically HIV, Molecular Virology, Viral Infection, Virus Diseases, Viral Immunology, Immunology of Infectious Diseases and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Daniel de Oliveira
Daniel de Oliveira is a professor of computer science at Universidade Federal Fluminense in Brazil. His current research interests include scientific workflows, provenance, cloud computing, data scalable and intensive computing, high-performance computing, and distributed and parallel databases. He serves or served on the program committee of major international and national conferences (VLDB, IPAW, IEEE eScience, SBBD, etc.) and is a member of IEEE, ACM, and the Brazilian Computer Society. He has published many technical papers and is a co-author of the book “Data-Intensive Workflow Management For Clouds and Data-Intensive and Scalable Computing Environments” published by Morgan & Claypool in 2019.
Donatella de Pascale
Mainly involved in the discovery of new bioactive compounds from Antarctic and Arctic bacteria. Also working on on Antarctic psychrophilic microorganisms with potential biotechnological applications, and the dissection of the virulence determinants of some human pathogens by the use of non-vertebrate host model, like Caenorhabtidis elegans.
Carlos Eduardo de Rezende
Dr. Carlos Eduardo de Rezende is a Full Professor in the Environmental Sciences Laboratory of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Center at the North Fluminense State University (UENF). Prof. Rezende is a senior researcher from the Brazilian National Council for Science and Technology (CNPq) (Level 1B), Scientist of Rio de Janeiro state from Foundation for Science Development (FAPERJ) and coordinator of the Future Earth Coasts in South America. Dr. Rezende has a professional experience including studies on the dynamics in continental aquatic environments (e.g.: rivers, lakes), terrestrial and coastal ecosystems (e.g., estuaries, mangroves and lagoons) and ocean. At UENF, Prof. Rezende held various institutional leadership roles (e.g., Vice-Rector, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Center Director and Head of Environmental Sciences Laboratory), and he has participated in several boards and councils. Actually, Prof. Rezende is conducting studies on Hg and inorganic (e.g.: Al, Fe, Mn, carbonate) and organic geochemical supports (e.g. elemental and isotopic composition) as well as their ecosystem interactions; use of molecular markers (e.g., lignin phenols, carbon black) as geochemical tools to enhance the understanding on the alterations of biogeochemical cycles in the transition between terrestrial and aquatic environments.

Assistant Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Past Visiting Fellow Researcher at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, NIH, MD/USA; Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Sao Paulo.
Ana Tereza Ribeiro de Vasconcelos
Ana Tereza Vasconcelos is Senior Researcher Scientist at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing and coordinator of the Bioinformatics Laboratory and the Computational Genomics Unit Darcy Fontoura de Almeida at National Laboratory of Scientific Computation (LNCC). Her team has experience in the area of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Using High Performance Computing and AI working on the following topics: Genomics, Development of software applications in Bioinformatics and computational tools applied assembly, annotation and comparison of genomes, metagenomics, exomes and transcriptomics applied to many different model organisms. Since 2020 he has worked in the generation and analysis of SARS-CoV-2 genomes, mainly in the identification of new lineages.
