Shibiao Wan

Dr. Shibiao Wan is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy, and the Co-Director for the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (BISB) PhD Program at University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He is also an Assistant Professor (courtesy) in the Department of Biostatistics at UNMC.

With more than 15 years of experience in machine learning, bioinformatics, and computational biology, Dr. Wan has published >50 articles in top-tiered journals such as Genome Research, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Circulation Research, Briefings in Bioinformatics, and Bioinformatics. Dr. Wan is the Editor-in-Chief for Current Proteomics, and an Editorial Board Member for a series of prestigious journals such as Briefings in Functional Genomics, Heliyon, BMC Bioinformatics, International Journal of Microbiology, PeerJ Computer Science, BioMed Research International, and Computational and Mathematical Methods, and a guest associate editor for multiple high-impact journals.

Dr Wan is a TPC member for >20 machine learning related international conferences including IEEE ICTAI. Dr. Wan is also a reviewer for >70 prestigious journals including Nature Biotechnology, Nature Methods, Nature Communications, Nature Computational Science, Science Advances, Nucleic Acids Research, Advanced Science, Cancer Research, Genome Biology, and Genome Medicine. Dr. Wan has received a number of accolades including the Springer Nature Editor of Distinction Award in 2025 by Springer Nature, the New Investigator Award in 2024 by UNMC, the FIRST Award in 2023 by Nebraska EPSCoR, the Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2022 by HK PolyU as well as the Global Peer Review Awards (top 1%) in “Cross-Field” and “Biology and Biochemistry” in 2019 by Clarivate. Dr. Wan is a member of AACR, ISCB and ACM and an IEEE Senior Member.

Christian Wehenkel

Author / co-author of more than 170 international and national publications.Technical manager of more than 40 national and international projects. Evaluator of CONHACYT, Mexico and other institutions. Member of the Latin American Forest Genetic Resources Network (LAFORGEN).

Claus O Wilke

Professor and Department Chair, Department of Integrative Biology, The University of Texas at Austin. Received his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Bochum, Germany, in 1999. Postdoc at Caltech, 2000-2005.

Michael Wink

Prof. Dr. Michael Wink is Professor of Biology and Director at the Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology of Heidelberg University; Head of Biology Department (1989-2019). Senior professor since 2019. Editor of Diversity, Biotechnology Journal and Journal of Ornithology. Member of several editorial boards and scientific societies. Author of over 20 books and over 900 original peer-reviewed publications.

L. LaReesa Wolfenbarger

Dr. Wolfenbarger conducts research on the ecology and conservation of grassland species and communities in the agricultural landscape of the Great Plains. She also devotes research time to synthesizing information for policymakers and resource managers so that scientific results are readily available for decision makers.

Albert HC Wong

Albert H.C. Wong is a neuroscientist and psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and a Professor at the University of Toronto. He attended medical school at the University of Toronto, where he also completed specialty training in psychiatry and a PhD in neurobiology. Dr. Wong’s lab uses animal models and clinical studies to investigate genetic, epigenetic and developmental mechanisms of psychiatric disease. His areas of clinical expertise are in schizophrenia and brain stimulation.

Zhijin Wu

I develop statistical methodology and software for the analysis of -omics data. I am particularly interested in the regulation of transcription: the molecular mechanism as well as its association with disease.

Rongling Wu

Prof. Rongling Wu is a Distinguished Professor of Public Health Sciences and Statistics at Pennsylvania State Cancer Institute and Director of the Center for Statistical Genetics.

His research interests include; Quantitative Trait Loci, Genes, Growth, Population, Multifactorial Inheritance, Statistical Models, Genome, Populus, Genotype, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism, Phenotype and Chromosome Mapping.

Xiangyang Xu

Research Geneticist (Plant) at the USDA-ARS Wheat, Peanut, and Other Field Crop Research Unit.

My current interest is in wheat genetics, genomics, and breeding. I focus on wheat pest and disease resistance, including Russian wheat aphid, greenbug, bird cherry oat aphid, leaf rusts, and powdery mildew resistance etc.

Wei Xu

Dr. Wei Xu received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from University of Toronto. He is currently a scientist and principle biostatistician in Princess Margaret Hospital on clinical research of cancer diseases. He is a faculty member at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Medical Statistics and Informatics. Dr. Xu's research interests are statistical genetics and clinical trial design and analysis. He is the author or co-author of over 100 publications in peer-review journals.

Yunfeng Xu

Dr. Yunfeng Xu is currently working in School of Biological Science and Technology, University of Jinan. Dr. Xu focuses on wheat genetics and breeding, fine mapping and the cloning of important wheat genes for yield traits, as well as developing robust molecular markers for wheat improvement.

Rendong Yang

Dr. Yang is an assistant professor and section leader for cancer genomics at the Hormel Institute. Dr. Yang obtained his PhD in the China Agricultural University, where his work involved the topic of microarray data analysis. Briefly he developed two statistical models, called ARSER and LSPR, to detect periodically expressed transcripts from evenly or unevenly sampled temporal microarray gene expression profiles respectively. By applying these algorithms to Arabidopsis and rice transcriptome, a list of novel clock-controlled genes that regulating plant circadian rhythm were identified. Dr. Yang finished his postdoctoral training at Emory University, where his research switched to cancer genomics and epigenomics. Working with researchers in Winship Cancer Institute, he developed a bioinformatics pipeline to analyze the whole genome mate-pair and pair-end sequencing and RNA-seq data from three tumor cells in multiple myeloma, which leads to discovering a novel SPI-ZNF287 t(11;17) translocation. After postdoctoral training, Dr. Yang joined Supercomputing Institute at University of Minnesota as a Bioinformatics Analyst working on both clinical genomics and prostate cancer research to define and characterize AR gene rearrangements from DNA-seq data, and also to interrogate genome-wide binding profiles of AR and AR variants in prostate cancer cells and tissues.
