Dr. Mahmooud Mabrok is an Assistant Professor of Fish Diseases and Management at the Suez Canal University, Egypt. He is also a senior postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Microbiology, Fish and Infectious Diseases at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.
Dr. Mabrok's work broadly concentrates on the development of novel diagnostic tools (PCR-Q PCR, RPA-LFD isothermal amplification for rapid and precise detection of most threatening pathogens, particularly in aquatic species. He also researches multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains that may affect animal hosts, with the aim of addressing this newly emerging phenomenon and the related public health concerns. In addition to this, Dr. Mabrok carries out research with the aim of finding an alternative remedy for diseases control and/or treatment of infectious diseases using eco-friendly active ingredients, including herbal extracts, prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics. Recently, he focused on host pathogen interaction, specifically with the intention of investigating host innate and/or adaptive immunity to cope with bacterial infection.
Dr. Mabrok has many international publications in the field of Fish Diseases, Microbiology and Immunology, and currently works as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE, USA, BMC Research Note Springer Nature, Journal Of Marine Science Hindawi Group. He has also been appointed as a Guest Editorial Board Member in Frontiers in Bioscience, International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Research. Stephen L. Macknik trained as a postdoc with Zachary Mainen at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and David Hubel at Harvard Medical School. He has a BA in Psychobiology, Biology and Psychology from the Univ of California, Santa Cruz, and a PhD in Neurobiology from Harvard Univ, with Margaret Livingstone. His research seeks to understand the neural underpinnings of visual awareness and attention, and the neural consequences of cerebral blood flow in the healthy brain and in neurological disorders.
Oceanographer with a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA and currently Assistant Professor of Zoology at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Research interests include benthic ecology, trophic ecology and systematics, with special focus on taxonomy of annelid polychaetes.
She graduated in Biological Science and achieved the PhD at the University of Rome "Sapienza". She trained as a post doc with Enrico Cherubini at SISSA, and with Cornelius Gross at EMBL. She is Assistant Professor at the University of Rome "Sapienza”. The main projects of her lab are devoted to the study of long-term changes of neural activity in hippocampal slice as result of glia-neuron interactions and environmental stimulation, using electrophysiological and molecular techniques.
Emiliano Maiani earned his MS and PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Rome, Italy. In 2013, he joined the Cell Stress and Survival laboratory headed by prof. Francesco Cecconi at the Danish Cancer Society Research Center (DCRC), Copenhagen, Denmark. At the end of 2017, he moved for a second postdoc at the Computational Biology Laboratory headed by Elena Papaleo at the DCRC, Copenhagen. In this period, he expanded his knowledge to computational and structural biology. His research is focused on cancer biology and in particular in autophagy and DNA damage response pathways.
Dilip K. Maiti was born September 09, 1970, in West Bengal, India. He received his BSc. in chemistry in 1991 and MSc. (organic chemistry major) in 1993, from the University of Calcutta, India. He achieved his Ph.D. on stereoselective synthesis, from Indian Institute of Chemical Biology in 1998. He carried out his postdoctoral research in the School of Medicine, Wayne State University, USA. In 2005, he joined as a Reader faculty at the University of Calcutta and became full Professor in 2011. His major research activity is focused on organic synthesis and fabrication of smart organic nanomaterials, sensors and devices.
Thulani Makhalanyane is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology and undertakes research at the Centre for Microbial Ecology and Genomics. His research has focused almost entirely on understanding the ecology of microbial communities in extreme environments.
Safarina G. Malik is a Principal Investigator at the Genome Diversity and Disease Division of the Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology, Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia, since January 2022. From 2011 to 2021 she lead the Lifestyle Diseases Research Group at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, Jakarta, Indonesia. Her key research topics and expertise include genetic diversity, microbiome, mitochondrial genetics and dysfunction, medical genetics, lifestyle disease association, nutrigenetics-nutrigenomics, population genetics and evolution.
My research focus is in using quantitative methods to precisely understand how soils function and change- spatially, and through time.
I research methods for comprehensive digital soil mapping aiming to characterize soil both in the lateral and vertical dimensions.
I research methods for quantifying (and validating) measures of uncertainty for these comprehensive soil information systems.
I investigate innovative systems for soil measurement, which includes that associated with remote and proximal and soil sensing instrumentation. I have particular interest in infrared and x-ray spectroscopy.
