Arkadiusz Piwowar
Arkadiusz Piwowar DSc, PhD, Eng., is an associate professor at the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, Poland. He received an engineer`s degree in marketing and management in 2005 from the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Science. At the same University he holds master’s degrees in Agriculture (2007). He was awarded his PhD (2011) and DSc (2018) at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business. Dr. Piwowar has interest in the fields of low-carbon development, energy economics, climate policy. His scientific achievements made include more than 160 scientific publications and 10 popular science publications. He has also prepared expert opinions and reports for business entities. He has reviewed more than 300 manuscripts for more than 50 different journals. He has been Editor or Editorial Board member of many journals and serves on numerous international conferences committees. Arkadiusz Piwowar is a Fellow of the Committee on Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the term 2020-2023. Manager and main contractor in several grants.

My research at the Cawthron Institute is highly applied and consist of developing multi-trophic molecular tools for environmental monitoring of marine industries (e.g. aquaculture farms, marine biosecurity in ports and marinas, and deep-sea exploration).
At the University of Auckland, I combine 'real-world' and 'blue-sky' research applications, including; i) investigating functional underpinnings of Symbiodiniaceae in coral reef ecosystems, ii) characterizing microbiomes in aquaculture and natural settings, iii) measuring eDNA and eRNA decay rates in marine invertebrates and vertebrates, iv) studying preferential settlement of marine invasive species associated with marine plastic debris, and v) exploring the diversity and dynamics of open-ocean plankton communities in the Pacific and beyond.
Albert A Presto
I am an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and a member of CMU's Center for Atmospheric Particle Studies (CAPS). My research focuses on pollutant emissions from energy extraction and consumption and the subsequent atmospheric transformations that these emissions undergo. Energy production and consumption is a major source of pollutants and greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Gas and oil wells emit methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Cars and trucks operating on gasoline and diesel fuels emit carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. Particulate matter from mobile sources is largely the result of incomplete or inefficient combustion in the form of organic aerosol and carbon soot. In addition to the direct emissions of pollutants, dilute exhaust undergoes oxidation in the atmosphere. This oxidation chemistry can lead to the production of secondary pollutants, such as ozone and secondary particulate matter. We investigate the contributions of primary and secondary pollution with ambient measurements, laboratory experiments, source testing of pollution sources, and atmospheric models. This multi-pronged and multi-disciplinary approach allows for a holistic view of pollutant emissions and transformations in the atmosphere, and their impacts on human health.
Jeff Price
Dr. Price is a Senior Researcher in the Tyndall Climate Change Centre, University of East Anglia. He is the coordinator of the Wallace Initiative, an Australia/U.K. collaboration examining the potential impacts of climate change on biodiversity (125,000 species examined) and ecosystem services at temperatures of 1.5° - 6°C. He is completing work on the Helix project where he coordinated the development of ClimaCrop, a new tool for looking at the impacts of climate change on crop yields and suitability. He was one of the lead authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third and Fourth Assessment Reports, (and contributing author on the Fifth) for which he shares in the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the IPCC. He also served on the Convention on Biological Diversity Ad-hoc Technical Expert Group on Climate Change and Biodiversity, and contributed to the U.K. Government’s Stern Review of the Economic Impacts of Climate Change (looking at health, agriculture and biodiversity) and the U.S. National Assessment on Climate Change Impacts on the United States.
Diogo B Provete
I am an Assistant Professor of Ecology and Statistical Ecology at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. My primary research interests include metacommunity ecology, biogeography, macroecology, and macroevolution. I often use phylogenetic comparative methods, geometric morphometrics, and multidimensional analysis in my research. I'm an elected member of the Science Committee of the Ecological Society of America, Chair of the ESA Latin America Chapter and serve as an Associate Editor for Amphibia-Reptilia, Journal of Herpetology, and Ecosphere. So far, I have published 30 papers on ecology and herpetology in international journals, 4 book chapters, in addition to a book on Biogeographical patterns of South American Anurans by Springer. My research has been featured in F1000 Prime and several Brazilian newspapers. I have advised four master's students. I have been invited to present my research in Swansea (UK), Argentina, Recife, and São Paulo. I served as Editor-in-Chief for Check List, and also was a member of the editorial board of five other zoology journals.
Benoit Pujol
Senior scientist, interested by open science (SORTEE member), registered reports (PCI RR founder) and the ability of plants (snapdragons, white campions, arabidopsis) and animals (clownfish, coral, roe deer, aphids) to adapt! Using quantitative genetics and developping it in wild populations to identify mechanisms that meddle with the response to selection on an ecological time scale.
James Davis Reimer
James Davis Reimer's research focuses on the biodiversity of understudied marine invertebrate groups (so-called "minor taxa"), primarily benthic cnidarians including zoantharians and their endosymbionts, as well as octocorals, from shallow tropical coral reefs to the deep sea. Recent research has also examined the impact of coastal development on marine diversity and ecosystems. Since 2007, he has been based at the University of the Ryukyus, where he is now a professor.
In 2015, he was awarded the Okinawa Research Prize for science contributing to the well-being and understanding of the Ryukyu Islands, and in 2021, he was awarded the Narishige Prize by the Zoological Society of Japan in recognition of his unique research output.
Aniello Russo
Senior Scientist at the NATO STO CMRE in La Spezia (Italy), Assistant Professor (on special leave) at the Polytechnic University of Marche (Italy) in the scientific sector Oceanography and Atmospheric Physics. Main research field concerns physical oceanography and relationships with atmosphere, clima, marine environment and biology. Participated in over 20 oceanographic cruises in the Mediterranean Sea and Polar areas.
Arnold R. Salvacion
Arnold is a Research Fellow at Centre for Crop and Disease Management, Curtin University. He is an environmental scientist with more than 15 years of research experience in agriculture, natural resource, applied climate science, human ecology, quantitative geography, and geographic information system. In 2021, he was awarded as one of the Outstanding Young Scientists by the National Academy of Science and Technology (Philippines) for his contribution to the advancement of human ecological research in the country. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Human Ecology and Sustainability and also serves on the Editorial Board of Spatial Information Research, and SN Social Sciences.
Agus Santoso
Senior research scientist at Climate Change Research Centre, UNSW Australia. Co-Project leader at the Centre for Southern Hemisphere Oceans Research (CSHOR), CSIRO, Australia. CSIRO adjunct science leader. Past member of WCRP CLIVAR Pacific Panel.
My research focusses on the mechanisms underlying climate and ocean variability and change. I implement data analysis techniques and climate model experiments. Specific interests include the evolution of Southern Ocean water masses; air-sea processes in relation to the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Indian Ocean anomalies, Southern Annular Mode, and their connection to regional rainfall variability and extremes.
Timothy D Scheibe
Laboratory Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and Lead Scientist at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), a scientific user facility located at PNNL. Research interests emphasize coupled hydrologic and biogeochemical processes as they control water quality, ecosystem health, and contaminant transport and fate. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to perform integrated computational and experimental research across a wide range of physical scales from molecules and cells to aquifers and watersheds. Was selected by the National Ground Water Association to serve as the 2010 Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer, in which role he presented 65 invited lectures across North America and Europe.
