Maria Luisa Fernandez-Marcos

Maria Luisa Fernandez-Marcos graduated in Chemical Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 1976. She obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1985, specializing in Soil Science. Between 1979 and 1987 she was a secondary school teacher.

Since 1987 she is a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, in the area of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, where she has taught Soil Science, Environmental Pollution and related subjects. Her main research lines are: soil chemistry, soil fertility and management, biogeochemical cycles, soil and water pollution, environmental soil science, waste management and recycling, tropical soils, climate change mitigation and adaptation.

She is a member of the Spanish Society of Soil Science, Soil Science Society of America, International Union of Soil Sciences and Ibero-American Society of Environmental Physics and Chemistry.

Tessa B Francis

Tessa Francis is the Lead Ecosystem Ecologist at the Puget Sound Institute, and the Managing Director of the Ocean Modeling Forum. Tessa holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley; a B.S. in Wildlife Science from the University of Washington; and a Ph.D. in Zoology and Urban Ecology from the University of Washington.

Guobin Fu

Dr Guobin Fu is a Senior Research Scientist with more than 25 years of experience researching on climatic change and variability impacts on regional hydrology regimes and water resources in China, USA and Australia. It includes statistical analysing climate variability and change for hydrological applications, statistical downscaling of GCMs to provide climate inputs suitable for regional climate impact assessments, surface hydrological modelling at catchment and basin scales, and field experiments and modelling of pan evaporation and evapotranspiration. Since joining CSIRO in 2006, he has participated several high-profile key projects, such as IOCI, SEACI, Goyder Climate and sustainable yield projects.

Maria Gavrilescu

Maria Gavrilescu is Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering and Management, Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection - Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, Romania. Her research interest includes: chemical and biological process engineering, biotechnology/ environmental biotechnology, environmental risk assessment and management, ecological risks, industrial safety, integrated pollution prevention and control, sustainable industrial production, eco-design, eco-technologies, cleaner production, environmental evaluations.

She is author or co-author of •36 books and chapters (Wiley, Springer, Elsevier, Signpost)•9 student books •148 papers published in ISI ranked journals and ISI Proceedings (6)•91 papers published in peer-reviewed journals•37 papers in peer-reviewed Proceedings•49 conferences and keynotes •176 presentations at conferences •44 research reports •12 patents (9 in Derwent Innovations Index).
Prof. Gavrilescu is the Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Engineering and Management Journal (EEMJ) edited under the aegis of “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi Romania, and included in relevant international databases. The impact factor (Thomson Reuters) ISI in 2016 is 1.098, according to Journal Citation Reports.
The scientific visibility is illustrated by over 2800 citations (WOS h-index 25, Scopus h-index 25).

Andrea Ghermandi

I am an Associate Professor and Head at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, and the director of the Natural Resources and Environmental Research Center at the University of Haifa in Israel. I am an alumnus of the Global Young Academy. I received a PhD in Analysis and Governance of Sustainable Development from the University of Venice (Italy) in 2008. An environmental engineer by training, my research spans over a range of fields including the valuation and mapping of ecosystem services and the passive crowdsourcing of social media data in environmental research. I have published >50 peer-reviewed scientific articles and contributed to high-profile international initiatives such as TEEB-The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, the UNEP/GEF Project for Ecosystem Services (ProEcoServ), and the Ecosystem Service Partnership.

Tilottama Ghosh

Dr. Tilottama Ghosh has ten years of experience with low light imaging data from the U.S. Air Force Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP), and Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) data from 2013 onwards. Products generated include VIIRS Nightfire, VIIRS Boat Detection, VIIRS Nighttime Lights, and DMSP-OLS Nighttime Lights. Experience working with low light imaging data has included processing historic lunar cycle composites, monthly and annual cloud-free global mosaics of nighttime lights composites, creating metadata documenting generated data products, fulfilling data requests related to the nighttime lights products and the DMSP archive, providing training in the use and implementation of nighttime lights software to scientists and researchers, documenting DMSP and VIIRS algorithms and accomplishments through manuals, conference proceedings, and journal submissions. She has conducted many significant socio-economic research and analysis using DMSP and VIIRS nighttime lights, and prepared publishable materials. Her research interests include- socio-economic estimations using nighttime lights, studying sustainable growth of cities, urbanization and population growth.

Paolo Giordani

Associate Professor of Botany in the Department of Pharmacy, University of Genoa.

My current research interests focus on the study of lichen ecology and biology. Research topics include the effects on sensitive organisms of anthropogenic disturbances, e.g. air pollution, forest management, fires, pastures, and climate change. I was in charge of developing European standard protocols on lichen biomonitoring of air quality.

Ioannis Gitas

Ioannis Gitas is a Professor at the Laboratory of Forest Management and Remote Sensing, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and an elected fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society. His research has focused on remote sensing and GIS applications in environmental monitoring, with emphasis on forest fire management and land cover/land use mapping and change detection. He has been involved in various national and international projects and has long experience working as a consultant in GIS/RS issues for national and international organisations, as well as for the industry. Also, he has served as a project proposal reviewer for a number of national and international research organisations. Dr. Gitas received his PhD and M.Phil. degrees in GIS and Remote Sensing from the Department of Geography, Cambridge University, U.K., and a B.Sc. degree in Forestry and Natural Environment from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He is an Associate Editor of Remote Sensing and has edited special issues for a number of high impact factor journals. In addition, he has substantial experience in organising international workshops and conferences. Ioannis Gitas is currently the Chair of the Special Interest Group on Forest Fires of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL, FFSIG), the FAO Forest Resources Assessment - Remote Sensing Survey contact point for Greece, and is a member of the GOFC-GOLD Fire Implementation Team.

Bruno Spacek Godoy

Professor of ecology and statistics with over 11 years of successful experience in lectures and research. Recognized consistently for performance excellence and contributions to Brazilian streams ecology, mainly in savanna-like forests. Strengths in aquatic ecology and statistics, Bayesian and Classical inference. Taught multiple Ecology and Statistic classes in undergraduate and postgraduate-level. Published 34 papers in international journals and advised 30 students in undergraduate and postgraduate-level.

Yuming Guo

Dr Yuming Guo is professor of Global Environmental Health and Biostatistics & Head of the Monash Climate, Air Quality Research (CARE) Unit. He is supported by an NHMRC Career Development Fellowship (Level 1 & 2). Prof Guo was awarded Master of Medicine (2009), and PhD (2012) from Peking University and Queensland University of Technology, respectively. Before moving to to Monash University in March 2017, Dr Guo held appointments at the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, and Peking University.

His research group focuses on environmental epidemiology, biostatistics, global environmental change, air pollution, climate change, urban design, residential environment, remote sensing modelling, and infectious disease modelling.

Prof Guo is appointed an adjunct professor by The University of Melbourne, The University of Queensland, The University of Oulu (Finland), Jinan University (Guangzhou), and Chongqing Medical University. He was awarded a visiting fellow of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine supported by the Leverhulme Trust.

Prof Guo has published extensively (over 260 high quality papers) in prestigious international journals including the highest-ranked journals (NEJM, Lancet, BMJ, Nature, Nature Medicine, PLoS Medicine, Nature Communications, Thorax, The Lancet Planetary Health, Environmental Health Perspectives, Environment International, etc). His works are highly cited, with >20,000 citations and H-index of 54.

Mirza Hasanuzzaman

Dr. Mirza Hasanuzzaman is a Professor of Agronomy at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received his Ph.D. with a dissertation on ‘Plant Stress Physiology and Antioxidant Metabolism’ from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Ehime University, Japan with a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship. Later, he completed his postdoctoral research in the Center of Molecular Biosciences (COMB), University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan with a ‘Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)’ postdoctoral fellowship. Subsequently, he became an Adjunct Senior Researcher at the University of Tasmania with an Australian Government’s Endeavour Research Fellowship. Prof. Hasanuzzaman has over 180 publications in Web of Science. He has edited 15 books and written over 40 book chapters on important aspects of plant physiology, plant stress responses, and environmental problems in relation to plant species. His publications are cited over 12000 times as per Scopus with an h-Index of 58 (as of July 2022) and named as Highly Cited Researcher 2021 by Clarivate. He is Editor and a reviewer for more than 50 peer-reviewed international journals and the recipient of ‘Publons Peer Review Award 2017, 2018 and 2019’. He received the World Academy of Science (TWAS) Young Scientist Award 2014 and UGC Gold Medal 2018. He is a Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, Royal Society of Biology, and Linnean Society of London.

Hugo G Hidalgo

Professor and researcher in surface water hydrology, with a special interest in hydroclimatology. Dr. Hidalgo obtained a BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Costa Rica (1992) and an MS (1998) and a PhD (2001) in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Hidalgo is currently a professor of the School of Physics at the University of Costa Rica. He is the coordinator of the Master’s Degree Program in Hydrology, the Focal Point for the Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences Water Program and Director of the Geophysical Research Center at the University of Costa Rica. He has authored over 30 publications and participated in more than 100 conferences, seminars and workshops.
