Helder Nakaya
Prof. Helder Nakaya is Deputy Director of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of São Paulo, Brazil, Associate Professor at University of São Paulo, Brazil, and Adjunct Professor of the School of Medicine, Emory University, USA. He has a PhD in Molecular Biology with extensive training in Bioinformatics. He is an expert in Systems Vaccinology, an interdisciplinary field that combines systems-wide measurements, networks, and predictive modelling in the context of vaccines and infectious disease. Dr. Nakaya has developed systems biology approaches to understand and predict the mechanisms of vaccine induced-immunity for Yellow Fever, seasonal Influenza, Meningococcal, and Tularemia vaccines. His lab is focused on investigating the basis of infectious diseases using computational systems biology.
Hongfei Hou
Hongfei Hou, a senior scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, has attained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Washington State University. His research area includes cloud computing and machine learning.
Doğan Aydın
Doğan Aydın is a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Izmir Katip Çelebi University. He is particularly interested in swarm intelligence and optimisation techniques, as well as deep learning and computer vision. He has several publications in high impact journals in related fields.
He holds a PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Ege University and was a visiting researcher at the Artificial Intelligence research laboratory of IRIDIA, Université Libre de Bruxelles for two years. He is currently continuing his academic studies and also provides consultancy services to private sector companies in the field of artificial intelligence.
Yonghong Peng
Dr. Peng is a Professor of Data Science at the University of Sunderland. He is a Principal Investigator in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology and Medicine, and Principal Data Scientist working on Big Data Integration, Data Mining and Computational Intelligence. Dr. Peng's Data Science and BioMedical informatics (DS & BMI) research group focuses on development of innovative data analytics approaches to enable systematical analysis of biological data, medical images, and healthcare data and to gain new knowledge and insights from the integrative analytics of diverse data sources.
Armin R Mikler
Armin R. Mikler is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Georgia State University. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Iowa State University in 1995. As a professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas from 1997 -2020, Dr. Mikler directed the Center for Computational Epidemiology and Response Analysis (CeCERA).
His research interests include Computational Epidemiology and Disaster Informatics with focus on data-driven response plan design and plan optimization. Dr. Mikler’s research on response plan design and analysis is supported by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He has supervised over 40 PhD and MS theses and has published over 100 research articles related to a range of topics, including distributed systems, networking, computational epidemiology, and response plan design and analysis.
Abdel Hamid Soliman
Dr Soliman has over 30 years of experience in the academic and industrial fields. He has a multidisciplinary academic/research experience in digital signal processing, telecommunications, data acquisition systems, WSN, IoT, Fibre Optics communication and image/video processing. He is working to harness and integrate different technologies towards implementing smart systems to contribute to smart cities and real-life applications. His research activities are not limited to the national level within the UK but are internationally extended to many partner Universities in various countries. His research has produced over 50 refereed papers.
In addition to his research activities, he is involved in several enterprise projects and consultancy activities for national and international companies. Since 2007 he has been leading and involved in several externally funded projects on national, European and international levels totalling more than £20M.
Dr Soliman’s work has been recognised through several awards such as: Lord Stafford award “Impact through Innovation”, for Designing and developing a smart monitoring and controlling system for diabetic people. The AWM ICT Excellence awards for “Best Knowledge Transfer project” category, for Designing and developing an electronic bladder diary, and UHNS “Clinical Innovation” award, for Designing and developing an online multimedia-based training system for surgeons.
Alessio Martino
Alessio Martino graduated summa cum laude in Communications Engineering at University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy, 2016. From 2016 to 2019, he served as PhD Research Fellow in Information and Communications Technologies at the same University (Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications), with a final dissertation on pattern recognition techniques in non-metric domains. During his PhD, he also served as scientific collaborator with Consortium for Research in Automation and Telecommunication, Rome, Italy.
After obtaining the PhD, he was granted a 1-year Post Doctoral Research Fellowship at University of Rome "La Sapienza" and a 1-year Post Doctoral Research Fellowship at the Italian National Research Council (Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies). Since February 2022, he is Assistant Professor of Computer Science at LUISS University.
His research interests include machine learning, computational intelligence and knowledge discovery. Currently he's focusing on large-scale machine learning, advanced pattern recognition systems, big data analysis, parallel and distributed computing, granular computing and complex systems modelling, in applications including bioinformatics and computational biology, natural language processing and energy distribution networks.
He serves as Editor for several journals and regularly serves as Technical Program Committee member for several international conferences. Alessio Martino is also a member of the IEEE.
Catherine F Higham
Dr. Catherine Higham works at the interface between mathematics, deep learning and experimental science. Her first degree was in mathematics and her PhD involved mathematical modelling and statistical inference applied to somatic genetic mutations arising in myotonic dystrophy and Huntington's disease. Subsequent areas of research include Bayesian inference in nonlinear ODEs and the circadian clock. Currently, she is developing and applying deep learning techniques to inverse problems arising in novel quantum imaging technologies such as the single pixel camera and lidar. She also has an interest in quantum machine learning and framing problems for quantum annealing.
Lexing Xie
Lexing Xie is Professor in the Research School of Computer Science at the Australian National University. She leads the ANU Computational Media lab (http://cm.cecs.anu.edu.au/). Her current research interests are in machine learning on graphs and time series, especially on understanding individual and aggregate behaviour in online social networks, at the intersection of media, language and behaviour. She was research staff member at IBM T J Watson Research Center 2005-2010. She is Associate editor for ACM TOIS, ACM TiiS and PeerJ CS.
Fabio Cumbo
Fabio Cumbo is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Computational Life Sciences of the Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute in Cleveland, OH.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Automation Engineering from the University of Roma Tre in 2019, and his BSc. and MSc. in Software Engineering from the same University in 2012 and 2014 respectively. From November 2018 to December 2021 he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrative Biology (CIBIO) of the University of Trento, Italy. Fabio

Antonio Jesus Diaz-Honrubia
Antonio J. Díaz-Honrubia is an Associate Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, to which he joined after holding an Assistant Professorship at Universidad de Oviedo and a part time Professorship at Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (a job that he combined with a position in the R&D department of a private company in the telecommunications field).
He received his Ph.D. in 2016 from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, where he had also received his B.Sc. (Spanish National Extraordinary Award) and M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering.
His research interests include video transcoding, perceptual video coding, multimedia standards, scalable video coding, and simultaneous video coding. More recently, he is moving forward to the topic of data analysis and validation.
He has been a visiting researcher at Ghent University (Belgium) for 4 months, the Florida Atlantic University (USA) for 3 months, and the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) (Germany) for 6 months.
He has more than 30 publications in these areas in international refereed journals and conference proceedings.
Marta Cimitile
Marta Cimitile received her degree with full marks and honors in Ingegneria Gestionale in 11/12/2003 from the Facoltà degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”, presenting a thesis in “Enterprise management: organizational and technical problems related to implementation of a CRM”.
She has also received her PhD in software engineering at the Department of Informatics in the University of Bari, presenting a thesis in: “Knowledge Economy in Software Engineering”.
Currently she is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Economics of the Unitelma Sapienza in Rome (Italy). Her main research is in the study and evolution of Process Mining, Process and Knowledge Management and Knowledge transfer in Open Innovation.
She was involved in several industrial projects for the realization of an Experience Factory for the knowledge storing and reuse and she made several teaching and training activities in the context of these research projects . She is also partner of the SER&Practices spin off company of the University of Bari.
