Zhi Yang

Chris M Yeager

I am a broadly-trained microbiologist with a research background in molecular biology, microbial ecology, genomics and biogeochemistry. Over the past 12 years I have served as a Staff Scientist within the Department of Energy National Laboratory system, first in the Environmental Biotechnology Section at Savannah River National Laboratory (2005-2011) and then in the Biosciences and Chemistry Divisions at Los Alamos National Laboratory (2011-current). As a staff scientist, I developed and managed a variety of research programs, focusing on microbial communities involved in processes relevant to climate change, fate and transport of radionuclides in the environment and bioenergy production. I received a BS degree from the University of Wyoming in Biochemistry, after which I worked as a laboratory technologist at the University of Utah and the VA medical center in Salt Lake City, UT with a team investigating the molecular underpinnings of diabetes. I received my doctorate in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Oregon State University in 2001 under Drs. Daniel Arp and Peter Bottomley investigating biodegradation of toxic compounds, such as trichloroethylene and toluene, by soil microorganisms. I completed postdoctoral training (2001-2004) at Los Alamos National Laboratory under Dr. Cheryl Kuske examining how the microorganisms that build and maintain biocrusts in soils of arid environments might respond to climate change.

Venkata Yellapantula

Bioinformatician currently at Memorial Loan Kettering Cancer Center with 10 years of experience in analyzing high-throughput genomic and proteomic data. I have a diverse background in handling raw exome & whole genome sequencing, RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq data to identify genetic aberrations. Proficient in development and implementing pipelines and algorithms and post analysis of aberrations identified through individual assays to glean novel biological patterns. Led large-scalegenomic efforts such as MMRF CoMMpass trial, ICGC & TCGA.

Jian Zhang

Dr. Jian Zhang currently works at the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery & Gastric Cancer Center, The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Jian does research in Genetics/Epigenetics and Cancer Research. He is also the editorial board member of Frontiers in Oncology and Frontiers in Bioinformatics.

Lin Zhang

Dr. Lin Zhang is Associate professor within the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, Wuhan, China.

His research interests focus on:

1)How ectotherms (with tropical lizard as subject) linking bioenergetics and overwintering strategy during global warming
2)Macro-evolution including activity, metabolism and reproduction in squamate

Min Zhao

I pursued my bioinformatics Ph.D. degree in the center of bioinformatics in Peking University. During my Ph.D. study, I received comprehensive training in molecular biology, biostatistics and bioinformatics including research designs, computational tool development and database implementation. With a solid background and comprehensive knowledge in bioinformatics and biological networks, I filled a postdoctoral research fellow position at the Vanderbilt University. During this period, I received excellent training in the understanding of genetics of complex diseases including cancer and pulmonary disease, and I applied my bioinformatics skills in analysis of large scale next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.

To date, I have worked in four different research areas. The first is data collection from public literature and databases to build bioinformatics tools for public use. The second is the integrative analysis of NGS data to decipher the genetic mechanism of complex disease. Thirdly, I applied network-based strategy on the interplay of tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) and oncogenes (OCGs) using the public cancer genomic/epigenetic data. Lastly, I translated my disease genomics expertise to huge marine genomic data to explore the common cell-cell communication mechanisms of metazoan.

Degui Zhi

Associate professor (with tenure) of Biostatistics, University of Alabama at Birmingham; Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, University of California, San Diego; M.Sc. in Computer Science, National University of Singapore. Current research interests include bioinformatics and statistical genetics problems relating to next-generation sequencing and the integration of multiple types of Omics scale data.

I am a Coleoptera Curator and a Head of Coleoptera Section at the Museum of Nature Hamburg. I work on phylogenomics, systematics, and evolution of rove beetles (Staphylinidae).
