I. Emma Huertas
Tenured Scientist at the High Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). Research interests include marine biogeochemistry with special emphasis on carbon cycle in the coastal fringe (estuaries, salt marshes and continental margins) and the open ocean. My research lines focus on air-water CO2 fluxes and the coupling between inorganic carbon dynamics and biological and physical processes. More recently, I am also investigating the exchange of non CO2 greenhouse gases (CH4 and N2O) between the atmosphere and the marine domain. Phytoplankton dynamics and their adaptation to global change is also considered.
David W Johnston
Dave Johnston is a biological oceanographer and marine conservation ecologist whose research focuses on the habitat needs of marine vertebrates in relation to pressing conservation issues.
Sanket J. Joshi
Sanket Joshi is currently serving as a Professor and Deputy Director, at Amity Institute of Microbial Technology, Amity University Rajasthan, Jaipur, India. He served as Deputy Director, Oil & Gas Research Center (2018-2023), and an Application Specialist, at Central Analytical and Applied Research Unit, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman (2013-2023). He holds BSc and MSc degrees from Sardar Patel University, India, and a PhD degree from M. S. University of Baroda, India – all in Microbiology. Dr. Joshi has 18 years of academic teaching and research experience, and 4 years of industrial R&D experience, in India and Oman. While working in Indian pharma companies, he undertook several turnkey projects (both upstream and downstream) on antibiotics (β-lactams, macrolides, glycopeptides), antidiabetic drug (for type II diabetes), and Co-enzyme Q10. His current research interests encompass: Energy (In-situ/ex-situ microbial enhanced light/heavy oil recovery; chemical enhanced oil Recovery; biofuels); Microbial products (biosurfactants, biopolymers, R&D and scale-up); and Environmental bioremediation (crude oil pollution; analysis, mitigation, and control of souring by Sulfate reducing bacteria; HPAM contaminated sites). Those research projects are multidisciplinary, involving both biotechnology and engineering disciplines. Since he joined SQU, his research team has received over 5.44 million USD in research grants and service contracts and established bioproducts for petroleum and environmental applications. He has 198 scientific publications as papers in international journals (95), book chapters (23), conference proceedings (67), international books (12), and one Australian Innovation Patent to his credit. Dr. Joshi serves as an Academic/Associate Editor for some of the highly reputed journals: Frontiers in Microbiology, PeerJ, BMC Biotechnology, Ecotoxicology, Petroleum Science and Technology, Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and Heliyon. He is book series editor of ‘Advances in Biotechnology and Bioengineering', Elsevier INC.; Guest editor for Frontiers in Microbiology, Energies, Sustainability, Scientifica, Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology, Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Environmental Quality Management, and Open Biotechnology Journal; and a recognized reviewer for different journals (Elsevier, Springer Nature, T&F, Wiley/AOCS, RSC, ACS, Hindawi, DE Gruyter, MDPI and others). He served as an intermediate guide for 30 undergrad/grad students and 3 PhD students, in India and in Oman; an active member of MEOR research team at SQU since 2009 and established a state of art research and service laboratory at SQU. He was awarded as “NRI Senior Scientist Award”, from Microbiologists Society, India, during academic year, 2019-2020. He has 4329 citations, h-index of 31, and i10 index of 61 (Google Scholar), and was listed among the 2% of the "Stanford University – Elsevier” list of the highly cited scientists in the world for - 2022 and 2023, for excellence in scientific research in ‘Energy’ and ‘Biotechnology’ disciplines.
Haseeb A. Khan
Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry at College of Science, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Group Leader of Analytical and Molecular Bioscience Research Group and a Chair Professor at Prince Sultan Research Chair for Environment and Wildlife, King Saud University. PhD from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India and received scientific trainings in USA, UK, Denmark and Finland. Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), UK. Authored more than 250 publications including 2 books and 20 book chapters. Recipient of Microsoft eScience Award. Research interests are clinical biochemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, nanobiotechnology, molecular conservation, bioinformatics, pharmacology and toxicology.
Lian Pin Koh
Lian Pin is Assistant Professor of Applied Ecology and Conservation at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). He is a tropical ecologist by training. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University (2008), where he studied the environmental and policy implications of oil-palm development in Southeast Asia. Since then, his research has focused on key scientific and policy issues concerning tropical deforestation and its impacts on carbon emissions, biodiversity and people.
Ida Kubiszewski
Dr. Ida Kubiszewski is an Associate Professor at University College London (UCL) in the Institute for Global Prosperity. Prior to this, she was an Associate Professor at Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA)
Dr. Kubiszewski was a climate change negotiator for the country of the Dominican Republic, following adaptation and loss & damage. She was a delegate at the 19th through 21st Conference of Parties.
Dr. Kubiszewski is the author, or co-author, of over 70 scientific papers and co-authored or co-edited six books. Her editorial work includes being the founding managing editor and current Associate Editor of a magazine/journal hybrid called Solutions, as well as a co-founder and former managing editor of the Encyclopedia of Earth. She sits on the editorial boards or advisory boards of various journals, including Ecosystem Services, Anthropocene Review, Energies, and PeerJ.

Bill P Leggat
I was awarded my PhD from James Cook University in 2001 where my research project focussed on photosynthesis and bleaching in the symbiotic giant clam Tridacna gigas. I then moved to the University of Queensland where I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Marine Studies in the laboratory of Prof Ove Hoegh-Guldberg. In 2007 I returned to James Cook Univeristy as a Lecturer in the discpline of Biochemistry, I am now a Associate Professor and head of the Symbiosis Genomics Research Group and a Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. The overarching aim of my research is to link transcriptomic and metabolomic changes to whole organism responses and acclimation. My research utilises genomic and metabolomic techniques to determine how the coral holobiont responds to anthropogenic changes, including increasing temperatures, ocean acidification and eutrophication.
Benjamin H Letcher
Ben Letcher is a quantitative stream ecologist working at the interface of field studies and mathematical models of population and evolutionary dynamics. My group is combining information from long-term intensive studies of stream fish with extensive studies to develop broad scale models of population response to environmental change.
Jay F Levine
Dr. Levine, Professor and interim department head in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Professor in the Department of Population Health and Pathobiology, North Carolina State University.
His research work, initially focused on arthropod-borne diseases and in particular Lyme disease. Dr. Levine has also coordinated studies focused on shellfish safety, marine finfish, numerous veterinary health problems in companion animals, and ecosystem health. The work of this laboratory, the Aquatic Epidemiology and Conservation Laboratory (AECL) focuses on some of the most imperiled animals on the planet, freshwater mussels and snails. Dr. Levine, his staff and students have been working to further our understanding of these freshwater invertebrates, develop new diagnostic techniques for studying their health and refining techniques that support their conservation and their captive propagation for the augmentation of remaining populations.
