I am a computational chemist and data scientist and group leader at AstraZeneca. My research activities all share the motivation to bring the power of computational chemistry to new chemical problems in pharmaceutical research and beyond, to fundamentally understand properties and functions of organic molecules, to reveal hidden chemical questions and to promote solutions for chemical challenges and focus on the development and application of efficient and transferable computational techniques and workflows.
Past and present research involved multi-disciplinary research in the areas of reactivity prediction, catalysis, biotechnology, bio-organic, colloid, and radical chemistry, molecular self-assembly and supramolecular chemistry, ion effects, and molecular electronics in organic electronic devices.
Following my undergraduate studies of Molecular Science I received my PhD in Computational Chemistry from the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany in 2010. I then worked as a Postdoc for the Cluster of Excellence Engineering Advanced Materials (EAM) until 2014, when I joined the Sustainable Process Technology (SPT) Research Group in in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Nottingham, first as an EU and UoN funded fellow, then as Assistant Professor in Biotechnology and Computational Chemistry. In September 2022 I joined AstraZeneca in Gothenburg / Sweden to work in predictive computational chemistry and data science within the Pharmaceutical Science department.
Oriol Jorba born in Barcelona (Spain, 9 July 1975), Industrial Engineer (Technical University of Catalonia - UPC-, Barcelona, Spain, 1999); Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering (Technical University of Catalonia -UPC-, Barcelona, Spain, 2005). In 2005, he was enrolled as researcher at the Earth Sciences Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, and in 2008 moved to the Atmospheric Modelling Group Manager position at BSC. Since 2016, he is senior researcher of the Atmospheric Composition Group at BSC. He has participated in projects funded by the European Commission and the Spanish Government on air quality, aerosols, and in the application of atmospheric modeling in HPC. He has lead the research project on the development of the multiscale chemical weather forecasting system NMMB-MONARCH which is the official model used by the Barcelona Dust Forecast Center (BDFC), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Meteorological Center specializing in Atmospheric Sand and Dust. As scientific reviewer of the Scientific Commission of the Spanish National Research Program, his research expertise includes high resolution mesoscale meteorology and air quality, development of online meteorology-chemistry models, boundary layer, atmospheric chemistry studies and environmental impact assessment.
Former Vice President for Research & Economic Development, currently the Charles and Hilda Roddey Distinguished Professor in Chemical Engineering and Ike East Professor in Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University. Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Recipient of AIChE/ACS Charles E Coates award in 2012. Research area is in environmental chemical engineering. He has broad research experience in wastewater treatment, atmospheric chemistry and, modeling the fate and transport of contaminants in all three environmental media (air, water and soil/sediment). Present research is concerned with the transformations of pollutants on atmospheric aerosols (fog, rain, ice and snow), mercury sequestration in sediments and, studies on chemical dispersant design for sub-sea oil/gas spill. He is the author of 1 widely accepted textbook (with four editions), 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, 27 book chapters and 2 U.S. patents. He has made over 250 national and international presentations and 28 invited seminars and plenary lectures on his research. His research has been supported by the NSF, EPA, DOE, DOD, USGS and several private industries.
Dr. Mohammed Kuddus is working as a Professor and Chairman of Biochemistry Department at University of Hail, Saudi Arabia. His main research area includes Molecular biology, Industrial enzymes, Extremophiles and Extremozymes, Microbial biotechnology, Food biotechnology, Waste utilization, Value added products, Bioremediation, Biopolymers and Bioplastics. He has published more than 75 research articles in reputed international journals along with 8 books and 22 book chapters; and presented more than 40 abstracts in national/international conferences/symposia. He has been serving as an Editor / Editorial Board Member and Reviewer of various international reputed journals. He has been awarded Young Scientist Projects from the Department of Science and Technology, India and International Foundation for Science, Sweden.
Professor Susanta Lahiri is a highly visible radiochemist of international fame. He has made pioneering contribution in heavy ion assisted production of clinically important radionuclides. However, his interest has been diversified in the areas of environmental radioactivity, green chemistry, cosmochemical analysis, bioaccumulation studies, speciation studies, as well as trace analysis. Currently he is working as Senior Professor at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, India. He received a doctorate degree from the University of Calcutta in 1994 and the University of Calcutta conferred upon him a D.Sc degree in 2009.
Professor Lahiri received the highest international honour in the field of Nuclear and Radiochemistry, the Hevesy Medal Award in 2015 and became the first Indian to receive the award in the history of ~50 years. The award was instituated in 1968 in honour of Nobel Laureate George de Hevesy. Earlier he received the prestigious associateship of Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) twice. He also received Professor J. C. Ghosh Memorial Award (2014) by Indian Chemical Society.
Professor Lahiri is the editorial board member of JRNC and Radiochimica Acta. He is also the member of CERN Medicis programme. He has more than 220 publications in international peer reviewed journal and 270 reports in international and national conference. He has guided 13 Ph. D students (including on board students).
Prof. E.J. Lenardao has pioneered studies on green procedures to prepare organochalcogen compounds (sulfur, selenium and tellurium-containing). He has made major contributions in the synthesis of vinyl chalcogenides and the chemical modification of natural occurring compounds by including selenium and sulfur in their structures. Some results of his studies were published in prestigious journals and contributed to the prospection of many boosted antioxidant semi-synthetic molecules. Since 2007, Prof Lenardao is a researcher of The Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Fellow of RSC, and a Member of the International Board of the Selenium and Sulfur Redox and Catalysis Network. Currently, studies on new chalcogen-containing reduced risk insecticides and antibiotics are among his research interests.
Lucian Lucia currently serves as a Professor in the Departments of Forest Biomaterials and Chemistry and as a faculty in the programs of Fiber & Polymer Science and Environmental Sciences at North Carolina State University. His laboratory, His Laboratory of Soft Materials & Green Chemistry probes fundamental materials science topics related to the chemistry of renewable polymers. He received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Florida for modeling photoinduced charge separation states of novel Rhenium (I)-based organometallic ensembles as a first order approximation of photosynthesis.
He began his professional career as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology examining the mechanism of singlet oxygen’s chemistry with lignin & cellulose.
A large part of his recent work has been focused on the chemical modification of cellulosics for biomedical applications.
He teaches a undergraduate historical perspectives class on paper history and engineering, an upper level undergraduate green chemistry class & lab, and a graduate student seminar series.
Dilip K. Maiti was born September 09, 1970, in West Bengal, India. He received his BSc. in chemistry in 1991 and MSc. (organic chemistry major) in 1993, from the University of Calcutta, India. He achieved his Ph.D. on stereoselective synthesis, from Indian Institute of Chemical Biology in 1998. He carried out his postdoctoral research in the School of Medicine, Wayne State University, USA. In 2005, he joined as a Reader faculty at the University of Calcutta and became full Professor in 2011. His major research activity is focused on organic synthesis and fabrication of smart organic nanomaterials, sensors and devices.
Dr. Matsakas is currently Senior Lecturer at the Biochemical Process Engineering at Luleå University of Technology (Sweden). He received his PhD in Industrial Biotechnology from the school of Chemical Engineering at National Technical University of Athens (Greece) in 2015. His main research activities focus on the development of methods for the pretreatment and fractionation of lignocellulosic and aquatic biomass and the subsequent conversion of the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin streams to biofuels, bio-based chemicals and bio-materials through biochemical and (thermo)chemical methods. He is also actively working on the development of mixotrophic and heterotrophic microalgae biorefinery processes for the production of high-added value compounds, such as omega-3 PUFAs, pigments and protein.
Dr. Muhammad Aamer Mehmood is a Professor of Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology at Government College University Faisalabad, a Distinguished Expert, and Visiting Professor of Industrial Biotechnology at Sichuan University of Science & Engineering. He is a recipient of several national/international awards/funding. He is serving as an Editor of several reputed journals.
Dr. Jyoti Mittal is presently listed as 2018 Highly Cited Researcher (HCR) by Clarivate Analytics in the Crossfield section. Out of 10 Indian HCR of 2018, she is the only woman scientist receiving this distinction. She is presently working as Assistant Professor at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal (India). She has obtained M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in Chemistry from the renowned Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (India) and obtained Ph.D. degree from RGTU, Bhopal. She has published several research papers in the journals of high impact in the area of water treatment and authored many books.
