Johannie M. Spaan

Dr. Johannie Spaan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest (Western University of Health Sciences). Her research interests focus on stress physiology, disease ecology, eco-immunology and parasitology.

More specifically, Dr. Spaan's research within the Steinauer lab is focused on a neglected tropical disease, Schistosomiasis, a helminth infection that affects over 200 million people. Research carried out within the lab focuses on uncovering potential mechanisms that can be manipulated to break the life cycle of this pathogen in order to reduce or eliminate schistosome transmission to humans.

In addition to this, Dr. Spaan is also involved in a project investigating the effect of schistosome infections in a mouse model system and the links among parasite infection, behavioral and cognitive changes, microbiome alteration, and systemic inflammation.

Nicholas Syn

Nicholas Syn, MBBS, is a researcher at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. His research interests are in general surgery, transplant surgery, and translational oncology. He has published over 109 PubMed-indexed articles in these areas, and has a H-index of 19 (updated as of 16th Apr, 2021).

Kazuki Takakura

Dr. Jonas Frederikson is an orthopedic surgeon who believes that patient care should be a physician's first priority. He specializes in laparoscopic procedures that minimize pain and recovery time, and has expertise in minimally invasive total knee replacement surgeries. Awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the American Medical Association in 2017, Dr. Frederikson has been published in both the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the New England Journal of Medicine. He holds a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of orthopedic medicine.

Bernhard Wernly

Dr Bernhard Wernly is a Physician-scientist at the Paracelsus Medical University, Salzberg, Austria. He is trained in cardiology and intensive care medicine, MD, PhD and currently doing a Master in Public Health.

Wei Xu

Dr. Wei Xu received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from University of Toronto. He is currently a scientist and principle biostatistician in Princess Margaret Hospital on clinical research of cancer diseases. He is a faculty member at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Medical Statistics and Informatics. Dr. Xu's research interests are statistical genetics and clinical trial design and analysis. He is the author or co-author of over 100 publications in peer-review journals.

Dongjie Yang

Dr. Dongjie Yang MD is Deputy Director, Consultant Surgeon and Doctoral Supervisor within the Center for Gastrointestinal Surgery at The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. He gained his MBBS in 2002 and MD in 2009 at the Zhongshan School of Medical, Sun Yat-sen University, China.

Dr. Yang has held previous previous positions at Kwong Wah Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital, Hong Kong; John Hopkins University, USA; the Center for GI Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, China; and the Japan National Cancer Centre Central Hospital .

Dr. Yang's clinical and research interests include Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery, and Gastrointestinal Oncology.

Since 2014, he has been a Member of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK (MRCS) & Member of The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (MCSHK). He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and Associate Fellow of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AFAMEE).

Zhi Yang

Zhi Yang is a Senior Manager in Biostatistics at Bristol Myers Squibb (2021-). She holds a Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of Southern California. Her research interests include data science, machine learning, genomics, public health, Bayesian inference, and cancer research.
