Stefano Ferraina

Professor of Human Physiology, I'm a systems neuroscientist and neurologist by training. My current researches include the study of the cognitive aspects of motor control and the neural correlates of hierarchical learning in human and non-human primates. I'm also interested to multidimensional signal analysis and to the progress of neurotechnologies for developing innovative brain-computer interfaces.

Simone Fontana

Prof. Simone Fontana is an assistant professor at Università degli Studi di Milano - Bicocca.

His main research activity is in the field of 3D robot perception, with special attention to point clouds registration, a problem for which he has developed a benchmark. More recently, Dr. Fontana's research has focused on the use of informatics techniques for neuropsicology and neuroscience.

He is a co-investigator of the DriveWin project, which aims to investigate the effects of different types of non-invasive neurostimulation on attention while driving. Attention was assessed on a driving simulator and two age groups were compared.

Prof. Fontana is also a lecturer at the School of Law and at the Advanced Specialization School in Neuropsychology.

Lalit Garg

Prof. Lalit Garg is an Associate Professor in Computer Information Systems at the University of Malta, Malta, and an honorary lecturer at the University of Liverpool, UK. He has been a researcher at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Ulster University, UK. Prof Garg has supervised 200+ Masters' dissertations, 2 DBA and 5 PhD theses and published 150+ high-impact publications in refereed journals/conferences/books, 17 edited books and 22 patents. He has delivered numerous keynote speeches, organised/chaired international conferences, and consulted countless public and private organisations for information systems implementation and management. His research interests are business intelligence, machine learning, data science, deep learning, cloud computing, mobile computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), information systems, management science and their applications, mainly in healthcare and medical domains. He participates in many EU and locally funded projects, including a one million euro Erasmus+ Capacity-Building project in Higher Education (CBHE), titled Training for Medical Education via Innovative eTechnology (MediTec) and Malta Council of Science and Technology's Space Research Funds. The University of Malta has awarded him the 2021-22 Research Excellence Award for exploring Novel Intelligent Computing Methods for healthcare requirements forecasting, allocation and management (NICE-Healthcare).

Syed Anas Imtiaz

I am a researcher in wearable medical devices working on creating new technologies for the monitoring and diagnosis if neurological, neurodevelopmental and sleep disorders. My research focuses on developing new biomedical signal processing methods, algorithms and mixed-signal circuit design for wearable systems, low power digital circuits for medical applications and embedded systems design. I am a Research Fellow at Imperial College London where I am developing new technologies for long-term monitoring, management and diagnosis of COPD, sleep disorders, epilepsy, and autism. I am also the Head of Engineering at Acurable leading development and at-scale manufacturing of a wearable medical device and its accompanying smartphone applications for the diagnosis of respiratory disorders.

Pengcheng Liu

Pengcheng Liu is a member of IEEE, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) and International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). He is also a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Bio Robotics, Soft Robotics, Robot Learning, and Safety, Security and Rescue Robotics. Dr Liu is an Associate Editor of IEEE Access, PeerJ Computer Science, and he received the Global Peer Review Awards from Web of Science in 2019, and the Outstanding Contribution Awards from Elsevier in 2017. He has published over 70 papers on flagship journals and conferences. He was nominated as a regular Funding/Grants reviewer for EPSRC, NIHR and NSFC and he has been leading and involving in several research projects and grants, including EPSRC, Newton Fund, Innovate UK, Horizon 2020, Erasmus Mundus, FP7-PEOPLE, NSFC, etc. He serves as reviewers for over 30 flagship journals and conferences in robotics, AI and control. His research interests include robotics, machine learning, automatic control and optimization.

M Murugappan

Prof. Dr. M. Murugappan is currently a Full Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST), Kuwait. In India, Malaysia, and Kuwait, he taught and conducted research for more than 15 years. Stanford University researchers ranked him in the top 2-percent of scientists worldwide in 2020, 2021, and 2022 for Experimental Psychology, Artificial Intelligence, and Cognitive Neuroscience.

He has authored 70 articles in SCI/SCOPUS journals, 58 conference proceedings, seven book chapters, and edited eight books. Google Scholar records a maximum score of 5654+ citations, along with an H index of 37 and an i10 score of 81 (Ref: Google Scholar). He has been awarded nearly $2.5M for his research by the Malaysian government and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).

Prof. Murugappan is a member of professional international societies such as IEEE, IET, IACSIT, IAENG, IEI and a Charted Engineer (C.Eng). He has given expert talks in Affective Computing, Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, and Affective Neuroscience. He is currently the IEEE Kuwait Section's Chair of Educational Activities. Affective Computing, Affective Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Brain-Computer Interface, Neuromarketing, Neuroeconomics, Medical Image Processing, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence are his primary interests. He has also guided 14 postgraduate students, 9 Ph.D., and 5 M.Sc.

He is currently an Editorial Board member for PLOS ONE (Q2), Human Centric Information Sciences (Q1), the Journal of Medical Imaging and Health Informatics (Q4), and the International Journal of Cognitive Informatics. He is serving as an editor in several peer-reviewed journals such as PlosOne, HCIS, JMIHI

Mario Negrello

Mario Negrello obtained a mechanical engineering degree in Brazil (1997), and later after a period in the industry (VW 1999-2004) including RD and Prototypes, obtained his Masters degree (2006) and PhD (summa cum laude) in Cognitive Science at the University of Osnabrück in Germany in 2009. At that time, in the Fraunhofer Institute in Sankt Augustin (Germany) for Intelligent Dynamics and Autonomous Systems, he researched artificial evolution of neural network controllers for autonomous robots (2007/08). This work was awarded a scholarship by the International Society of Neural Networks (INNS) to sponsor an eight-month period (2008/09) as a visiting researcher at the Computational Synthesis Lab at the Aerospace Engineering department of the Cornell University in USA (with Hod Lipson). In his first post doctoral period he acted a group leader at the Computational Neuroscience laboratory at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (with Erik De Schutter). He now heads a neuroscience lab that combines empirical research and computational methods (with Chris De Zeeuw). He has published in the fields of Machine Learning and Cognitive Robotics, Artificial Life, Evolutionary Robotics, Neuroethology and Neuroscience, as well as a monograph published by Springer US in the Series Cognitive and Neural systems entitled Invariants of Behavior (2012).

Marco Piangerelli

Dr. Marco Piangerelli had his M.Sc. in Bioengineering from the University of Bologna and got his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Camerino, where he is currently a Research Associate. His research interests are mainly on Unsupervised techniques for Machine Learning and Data Science in Manufacturing and Bio Science, Self-Adaptive Systems, and Topological Data Analysis. He is the author of many publications and was a PC member for many conferences and Workshops (AAAI-MAKE 2022-23-24 Spring Symposium, SACAIR 2023, DESRIST 2023, ATDA2019). He co-organized the 9th International Workshop on Engineering Energy Efficient InternetWorked Smart seNsors (E3WSN ) hosted by the 37th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA) at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Brazil. He has experience in Technological transfer projects and actively collaborates with international companies (INGKA, Schnell S.p.A., Sigma S.p.A., and Nuova Simonelli S.P.A.) and Italian ones (Syeew S.r.l). In 2024, he will be a Visiting Researcher at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) to work on topics related to his research fields.

Ivan Miguel Pires

Dr. Ivan Miguel Pires is a web and mobile developer, and adjunct professor at Instituto Politécnico de Santarém, Portugal.

Related to the back-end development:
He has worked with native PHP and OutSystems, and some PHP frameworks, including Zend, Symfony, Yii, Silex and Wordpress.

Related to the database development:
Dr. Pires has primarily worked with MariaDB and MySQL.

Related to the client-side development:
Dr. Pires has worked with native JavaScript, BackboneJS, UnderscoreJS, jQuery, jQueryUI, AngularJS, Angular 2, Angular 4 and others.

Related to the mobile development:
Dr Pires' primary research experience is related to the Android development. With additional training in Swift 3.

Related to my academic experience:
Dr. Pires was awarded a MSc in Computer Science and Engineering. Following this, his research focused on the use of mobile devices' sensors for the development of a platform related to Ambient Assisted Living.

Dr. Pires was awarded his PhD, and following this, his research has focused on the automatic recognition of Activities of Daily Living to be implemented as a module for the development of a personal digital life coach.

Assistant Professor of the Department of Business at Rey Juan Carlos University. Research focused on Online Consumer Behavior, Information Science, Data Science for Business and Biometrics.

Aurora Saibene

Aurora Saibene is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Computer Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca, whose research activities are mainly focused on brain-computer interfacing, human-machine interaction, multimedia signal processing, and neuroinformatics.

She took her Bachelor's, Master's Degree, and PhD in Computer Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2015, 2018, and 2022, respectively.

Her PhD thesis in Computer Science focused on the design of a Flexible Pipeline for Electroencephalographic Signal Processing and Management, wanting to provide a set of suggestions and technical procedures to pre-process, normalize, manage features, and classify a particularly tricky signal like the electroencephalographic one in different contexts. She has especially focused on the field of motor movement and imagery as well as on emotion recognition and she is now facing the challenge of employing wearable technologies with a multimodal approach to provide efficient and reliable brain-computer interfacing and human-centric systems in different fields of application.
