Falk Huettmann

Falk grew up in Germany, got a M.Sc. in Forestry from Universities, Goettingen, Freiburg and Munich with a thesis at NISK/Norway on digital image processing of trees affected by acid rain. He then worked at the EU with a Robert Schuman Scholarship of the European Parliament in Luxemburg, and with a NGO in Bruxelles. In 2001 he got a PhD from the ACWERN at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in Eastern Canada on pelagic seabirds, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data. His postdoc was with the Center of Wildlife Ecology at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver about Marbled Murrelets. He then got a Killam Scholarship with the University of Calgary working on Grizzly Bear habitat future models in the Rocky Mountains.

In 2002 he became a Professor of Wildlife Ecology in his EWHALE lab with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Falk works with his students world-wide on landscapes, oceans and the atmosphere focusing on the conservation of biodiversity and habitats. He has over 350 publications, including 9 books and many Open Access datasets and metadata on over 2000 species

Dr. Rubinsky's research interests include:
Heat and mass transfer in biomedical engineering and biotechnology in particular low temperature biology, bio-electronics and biomedical devices in particular micro and nano bionic technologies and electroporation, medical imaging in particular electrical impedance tomography and light imaging, biomedical numerical analysis in particular genetic and evolutionary algorithms and fractal techniques.

Rafael Reimann Baptista

Rafael Reimann Baptista, PhD, is a Full Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil. He is also member of the Brazilian Society of Biomechanics. Professor Baptista completed his PhD in Human Movement Sciences at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 2011. Professor Baptista maintains active membership of numerous professional and academic societies. In 2012, he was awarded by the Young PhD grant by the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FAPERGS), Brazil. In 2017, he was the President of the XVII Brazilian Congress of Biomechanics, supported by the National Council for Scientific and Technological (CNPQ), the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, and the Coordination of Superior Level Staff Improvement (CAPES). Professor Baptista sits on the editorial board for the Frontiers in Physiology as Associate Editor in Exercise Physiology and at the Editorial Board of PeerJ Life and Environment, and has published 78 papers including 30 in international peer-reviewed journals according to Scopus, with a 9 h-index. He is a frequent invited keynote speaker at academic conferences and educational events across Brazil and South America. He works in exercise physiology and biomechanics, with an emphasis in the clinical aspects of gait in older adults. He coordinates the Physical Activity Research and Evaluation Laboratory (LAPAFI) at the School of Health and Life Sciences at PUCRS.

Claire B Paris

Claire Beatrix Paris is a Professor in the department of Ocean Science, University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Director of the Physical-Biological Interactions Lab, she focuses on biophysical dispersion at sea, as well as the transport and fate of pollutants and oil spills from deep-sea blowout. Paris has brought recognition to the key role of behavior of the pelagic larval stage in the connectivity of marine populations and the function of ecosystems.

Paris has developed numerical and empirical tools for her laboratory’s research, both used worldwide: the Connectivity Modeling System (CMS) is an Open-Source Software (OSS) that virtually tracks biotic and abiotic particles in the ocean, and the Drifting In Situ Chamber (DISC) is a field instrument used to track the movement behavior of the early life history stages of marine organisms and detect the signals they use to orient and navigate.

Jürg Bähler is a Professor of Systems Biology at University College London. His laboratory studies genome regulation during cellular proliferation, quiescence, and ageing using fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) as a model system. They apply multiple genetic, computational and genome-wide approaches for systems-level understanding of regulatory processes and complex relationships between genotype, phenotype, and environment, including roles of genome variation and evolution, transcriptome regulation, and non-coding RNAs.

Jürg Bähler is an elected Member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, and he received a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award and a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.

Professor Shi Huashan is an Associate Professor at Sichuan University. His expertise is in the molecular biology of tumours and tumour transcriptomics. He is currently engaged in clinical and basic translational research, including tumour microenvironment and novel immunotherapeutic modalities, and research on the mechanisms and medical applications related to tumour cell vaccines.

I have a PhD from the University of Vienna, Austria, on plant MAP kinase signalling. Currently I am a staff scientist of the National Research Council at the Institute of Bioscience and Bioresources in Italy. I am curating a mutant collection of the model specie Medicago truncatula. I am using different approaches to understand gene function in several aspects of plant science (e.g development, synthesis of secondary compounds). I have an interest in characterization and valorization of local plant genetic resources.

The aim of our research group is to understand the dependency between environmental cues (e.g. light and temperature) that underlie circadian rhythms in symbiotic marine organisms, reef-building corals, in regulating physiology and behavior. Symbiotic corals will serve as a model system to investigate the dependency between two circadian-system associations or non-associations in the simple multicellular organism, on the physiological and molecular levels.
