Stefano Ferraina
Professor of Human Physiology, I'm a systems neuroscientist and neurologist by training. My current researches include the study of the cognitive aspects of motor control and the neural correlates of hierarchical learning in human and non-human primates. I'm also interested to multidimensional signal analysis and to the progress of neurotechnologies for developing innovative brain-computer interfaces.
Pedro G Ferreira
Pedro G. Ferreira graduated in Systems and Informatics Engineering from the University of Minho in 2002 and obtained his Ph. D. in Artificial Intelligence from the same University in 2007. From 2008 to 2012, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Bioinformatics and Genomics Laboratory, Centre for Genomic Regulation, Barcelona. From 2012 to 2014, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow the Functional Population Genomics and Genetics of Complex Traits group, School of Medicine, University of Geneva. He has been involved in several large international consortia including: ICGC-CLL, ENCODE, GEUVADIS, SYSCOL and GTEx. He published several papers in high impact journals, including the multidisciplinary journals: Nature, Science, Nature Communications, Scientific Reports, PNAS and eLife. Other papers have been published in high impact specialized journals including Genome Biology, Genome Research, American Journal of Human Genetics, Nature Cell Biology, RNA or Leukemia. He is the author of 3 book chapters and 2 books. He has an h-index of 31, with a total > 32 000 citations. In 2015, he was awarded an FCT Investigator Starting grant and he joined Ipatimup/i3s. He was awrded the Research Award 2015 and 2019 from Portuguese Society of Human Genetics - SPGH and the Microsoft Azure Research Award for Data Science 2017. He is a partner in a bioinformatics data analysis company with national and international clients, including hospitals, diagnostic clinics and research centres. From 2015 to 2018, he was an invited assistant professor at the Department of Informatics at the University of Minho, where he taught bioinformatics and data analysis at master's level. He has been involved in the final supervision of 1 postdoctoral fellow, 2 PhD students, 22 Masters students and 3 research assistants, and in the ongoing (main and co-) supervision of 5 PhD students and 5 Masters students. He was the director of the Masters and Specialisation in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (2020-2023). He has experience in the genomics start-up environment, where he developed information systems for personal genomics data interpretation. He is currently an Assistant Professor (since 02/2019) with Habilitation (since 10/2022) at Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and a Senior Researcher at the Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Group at INESCTEC. He is currently the Director of the Bachelor in Bioinformatics and Adjunct Director of the Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. His main research focus is on developing methods for a variety of problems in genomic data science. In particular, he is interested in unravelling the role of genomics in human health and disease. To achieve this goal, he applies and develops data analysis models using machine learning and probabilistic methods to analyse and interpret diverse, complex and large-scale genomic datasets.
Alda Maria Ferreira
I have a master's degree in microbiology and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology. I am an Associate Professor of Immunology at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. I have already supervised six master's and one doctoral students in the areas of biochemistry and infectious diseases.
My main area of interest is cellular and molecular biology of pathogens, infectious diseases and biological assays. So far I have published several papers involving studies in these areas.
I am the leader of a research group certified by the CNpQ (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) on biological assays with >Trypanosoma cruzi<, which is the etiologic agent of Chagas disease.
Marcelo U. Ferreira
Prof. Marcelo Ferreira is a medical parasitologist with over 20-year experience in field-oriented and laboratory research. He graduated in Medicine from the University of São Paulo, Brazil (1988), where he was trained in Internal Medicine (1999-2004) and obtained his MSc (1993) and PhD (1997) degrees. Further research training was obtained in Japan (Nagoya University, 1995-97) and the United States (Harvard University, 2005-06). He teaches medical parasitology at the University of São Paulo since 1990 and currently serves as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee on Malaria of the Pan-American Health Organization.
Scott Ferrenberg
I am a terrestrial population, community, and ecosystem ecologist interested in understanding how global change pressures influence biotic populations and community states, and how potential shifts in trait and/or species distributions will affect ecological functioning in arid, semiarid, and subalpine ecosystems. I am currently an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at New Mexico State University where I am the PI of the Global Change Ecology Lab (GCEL).
Carlo Ferri Marini
Dr. Carlo Ferri Marini is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Human Movement Sciences of the University of Groningen and University Medical Center Groningen. His research interests include aerobic and resistance exercise testing and prescription in both healthy and clinical populations, with a particular focus on the exercise physiology underlying the exercise intensity prescription methods.

The focus of our research is the connection between the content and organisation of genomes to the evolution of development (evo-devo). We utilize a variety of organisms in our research (including amphioxus, sea squirts, polychaetes and priapulids), chosen from key points in the phylogeny of the animals to enable reconstruction of the ancestral conditions at major nodes in the animal kingdom; the origin of bilaterians, protostomes, deuterostomes, chordates and vertebrates.
Blanca Figuerola
Blanca Figuerola is currently a Ramon y Cajal researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM-CSIC). She received her PhD in Biodiversity from the University of Barcelona. Her research sits between the established disciplines of taxonomy, biodiversity, ecology and conservation paleobiology using understudied marine invertebrate groups (e.g bryozoans) from tropical to cold waters as models for environmental change. During her postdoctoral research career, she has been awarded competitive grants such as Juan de la Cierva Incorporación (2018) and Beatriu de Pinós-Marie Curie-COFUND program (2020) to work at international research institutions (e.g. Australian Antarctic Division (Australia), Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (Panama) and ICM-CSIC). There, she has participated in several multidisciplinary projects involving fieldwork in Antarctic, temperate and tropical regions.
Marco Filardi
Marco Filardi, Ph.D., is a Senior Assistant Professor of Experimental Psychology in the Department of Italian Language, Literature, and Arts in the World at the University for Foreigners of Perugia (Italy)
His research interests involve sleep and circadian rhythms in clinical (e.g., primary sleep disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, psychiatric disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders), and non-clinical populations (e.g., children, adolescents, and elderly), sleep methodology (e.g., multisignal wearables, actigraphy, non-linear movement analysis, PSG, signal processing), neuroimaging correlates of sleep disturbances and cognitive deficits in sleep disorders and neurodegenerative conditions.
Cristina Fillat
Since 2011 she leads a research group in Gene Therapy and Cancer at IDIBAPS, Barcelona. Over the years she has contributed to the gene therapy field with more than 80 publications. She was among the team members that promote the constitution of the Spanish Society of Gene and Cell Therapy and served as Scientific Secretary from 2005 to 2011. She is editorial board member of several journals and Associate Editor of the Current Gene Therapy.
