My research at the Cawthron Institute is highly applied and consist of developing multi-trophic molecular tools for environmental monitoring of marine industries (e.g. aquaculture farms, marine biosecurity in ports and marinas, and deep-sea exploration).
At the University of Auckland, I combine 'real-world' and 'blue-sky' research applications, including; i) investigating functional underpinnings of Symbiodiniaceae in coral reef ecosystems, ii) characterizing microbiomes in aquaculture and natural settings, iii) measuring eDNA and eRNA decay rates in marine invertebrates and vertebrates, iv) studying preferential settlement of marine invasive species associated with marine plastic debris, and v) exploring the diversity and dynamics of open-ocean plankton communities in the Pacific and beyond.
I am a herpetologist working on diverse aspects of taxonomy, phylogeny and biodiversity of Asian herpetofauna. I have graduated from the Department of Vertebrate Zoology of Lomonosov Moscow State University and finished my PhD on taxonomy and evolution of Asian salamanders (Hynobiidae) in 2010. Presently I am working in this department as an associate professor. My study is focused on a set of topics on evolutionary biology and taxonomy of Asian amphibians and reptiles, including molecular systematics, phylogeography, DNA-barcoding, distribution and taxonomy of certain groups of Asian herps.
James Davis Reimer's research focuses on the biodiversity of understudied marine invertebrate groups (so-called "minor taxa"), primarily benthic cnidarians including zoantharians and their endosymbionts, as well as octocorals, from shallow tropical coral reefs to the deep sea. Recent research has also examined the impact of coastal development on marine diversity and ecosystems. Since 2007, he has been based at the University of the Ryukyus, where he is now a professor.
In 2015, he was awarded the Okinawa Research Prize for science contributing to the well-being and understanding of the Ryukyu Islands, and in 2021, he was awarded the Narishige Prize by the Zoological Society of Japan in recognition of his unique research output.

His research focuses on the origins and magnitude of diversity of the Mollusca, with active research currently in the Philippines (marine and terrestrial mollusks) and Jamaica (land snails). He uses biodiversity databases to better document the known diversity of mollusks and to estimate their total diversity.
Dr. Frederico Falcão Salles is Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). He received his BSc in Biology from Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, and both Masters and Doctorate degrees from UFV, working with the systematics of Ephemeroptera. From 2006 to 2018 Dr. Salles was a professor at UFES with a sabbatical leave in the Museum of Zoology in Lausanne, Switzerland. He currently works with the systematics of aquatic insects with an emphasis on Ephemeroptera in both neotropical and global contexts, and also with other orders in a less complex geographical context. Other areas of interest includes: biology, ecology, biogeography, biomonitoring and scientific communication for public outreach.
Sarah Samadi is professor at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. The common background of all her scientific activities is the analysis of the conceptual grounds of systematics and evolutionary biology. Her present empirical projects are mainly in the fields of species delimitations and of speciation processes. Most of her projects are focusing on organisms from poorly known environments (mainly deep-sea environments, notably seamounts and organic remains sunken on the deep-sea floor) and are developed in the methodological framework of “Integrative Taxonomy”, in which methods in phylogenetics, population genetics and ecology are combined.

Research: Collections-based biodiversity research in Arachnida and Myriapoda, contributing to species discovery and higher level phylogenies, and to the analysis of complex and new morphological characters suites for phylogenetic research as well as to the development of taxonomic tools. Research strategies address the vastly different knowledge-base in Arachnida on one hand and Myriapoda on the other, with nearly all research in integrative and collaborative arrangements (e.g., millipede phylogenomics research). PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Research interests include the phylogeny and evolution of plants with a particular focus on groups of vascular plants that are distributed in Mesoamerica and especially endemic to Mexico. Also interested in cloud forest flora. Systematics and taxonomy of orchids in Epidendreae are as well part of my interests. In addition, I am conducting investigation on diversity, evolutionary biology and ecology of geophytes an interesting life form in plants. Genomics and economic botany of underutilized fruits is one of my new lines of research.
