Dr. Gufran Beig is an atmospheric scientist, focussing on Environmental science aspects of atmosphere and air quality. He is working as Project Director at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune under the Indian Union Ministry of Earth Sciences. His broad area of research is Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Pollution. Specific topics of expertise include developing air pollution monitoring and forecasting systems and assessment of its impact on Human Health and food security; as well as long term changes and trends in the troposphere and Stratosphere. He has the distinction of developing and commissioning the first air quality Forecasting system for Indian Mega cities which is recognised as a pilot project of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO-GURME). He is the recipient of several awards, viz. the coveted Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, Norbert Gerbier-Mumm International Award of WMO, etc. He has been a committee member of the scientific steering /advisory committee member of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) project; SPARC of World Climate research; and Global Atmospheric Watch’s GURME-WMO project.
Gary has research interests primarily focussed on statistical (and reporting) aspects in developing and validating multivariable prediction models. He has published over 100 papers on clinical trials, observational studies, systematic reviews, quality of life, propensity scores and prediction models.
Gary is a statistical editor ("hanging committee") for the BMJ.
Gary also led the development of the TRIPOD Statement for reporting clinical prediction models - www.tripod-statement.org.
My scientific career has been developed in the field of Plant Protection, mainly in plant-parasitic nematodes and how these organisms interact with the plants and other microorganisms in the soil in order to design effective Integrated Management in the agrosystem. Plant-parasitic nematodes could be a major limiting biological constrains for many crops. I have developed five main research lines during my scientific career: i) Study of the interaction plant-nematodes including the plant resistance characterization; ii) Integrative diagnostics and molecular characterization of plant-parasitic nematode species (including description of new species and group phylogenies). This subject has been done with genera as important as Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Xiphinema or Longidorus among others; iii) Soil ecological relationships in order to understand the nematode biodiversity; iv) Genetic population structure and molecular diversity of nematodes and plant-viruses vectored by nematodes; v) Genome sequencing and analysis. Nowadays I am working in the Institute for Sustainable Agriculture-CSIC (Spain) in order to unravel the diversity and new control methods against plant-parasitic nematodes in crops.

Roi Gazit, PhD., is Principal Investigator of Hematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC) transcriptome laboratory at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. He is a member of the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev (NIBN), and the Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells at BGU. Roi earned a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in life science and developmental biology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He obtained PhD. in immunology, under supervision of Ofer Mandelboim, studying NK-cell in vivo, including the generation of the first NK specific mouse model and elucidation of novel NK-cell abnormalities in human patients. He conducted postdoctoral studies at the Harvard Medical School, at Derrick J. Rossi laboratory, focusing on the identification and utilization of HSCs’ genes, including reprogramming of committed blood cells into HSCs using defined transcription-factors and generation of a novel HSC-reporter mouse. His laboratory at the Ben-Gurion University is studying HSCs’ transcriptome along normal development, during immune-challenges, and the direct reprogramming of adult blood cells into HSCs.
