Francisco José Hernández Fernández

Francisco Jose Hernández Fernández is a professor at Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Cartagena, Spain. He received his degree in Chemistry and degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Murcia (Spain), being awarded with the Extraordinary Award in both degrees and with Special Mention in the National Award in Chemical Engineering by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. He received his PhD degree (European Doctorate) in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia, being awarded with the distinction of Extraordinary Award of Doctorate. He has realized research stays in Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) with the Professor Roger Sheldon, Professor Fred van Rantwijk and Isabel Arends and in The University of Nottingham (United Kingdom) with the Professor Gillian Stephens and Professor Peter Licence. His current research lines include the development of green reaction and separation processes using ionic liquids and of sustainable processes to produce energy using microbial fuel cells. Derived from his research, he has published over hundred papers in the fields of Engineering, Chemical; Engineering, Environmental; Biotechnology & Applied Microbiology and Chemistry and several patents. He is also editor of several international journals.

Scott F Heron

My research experience has spanned over 20 years and has focused on understanding coastal and near-shore environmental physical processes. Each of these research areas has involved the synthesis of physical information with the biological and/or chemical characteristics of the environment through the development of environmental and ecological models. In each of these areas I have published the work in international journals. For several years of this period, I taught physics at universities in Australia and the USA and created courses in environmental physics.

Laura Hertel

Principal Investigator, Center for Immunobiology and Vaccine Development, Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute, California, USA. Formerly Assistant Professor in Molecular Virology, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Western Ontario, Ontario, Canada.

Guido Hesselmann

Guido Hesselmann is Professor of General and Biological Psychology at the Psychologische Hochschule Berlin (PHB), Germany. His primary research interests are experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience and visual perception.

Hugo G Hidalgo

Professor and researcher in surface water hydrology, with a special interest in hydroclimatology. Dr. Hidalgo obtained a BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Costa Rica (1992) and an MS (1998) and a PhD (2001) in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Hidalgo is currently a professor of the School of Physics at the University of Costa Rica. He is the coordinator of the Master’s Degree Program in Hydrology, the Focal Point for the Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences Water Program and Director of the Geophysical Research Center at the University of Costa Rica. He has authored over 30 publications and participated in more than 100 conferences, seminars and workshops.

Robert J Hijmans

Robert Hijmans is a professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California, Davis. Prior to joining UC Davis, he held positions at the International Potato Center (Peru), the International Rice Research Institute (Philippines) and at the UC Berkeley Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. His research focuses on spatial data analysis in biodiversity, agriculture, and health, and he has developed widely used software and databases to support such work. He has a PhD in Production Ecology from Wageningen University (Netherlands).

Camilla B Hill

Dr Camilla Hill was awarded a Ph.D. in crop biochemistry and genetics (2014) from the University of Melbourne (Australia). Her main areas of expertise are plant genetics and genomics, analytical plant biochemistry, plant phenology and plant stress physiology. She has a strong background in using molecular and quantitative genetics as well as genomics technologies (metabolomics, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics) to understand the impact of environmental stresses on plant growth, development, and grain yield potential.

Grant A Hill-Cawthorne

Senior Lecturer in Communicable Disease Epidemiology, School of Public Health, University of Sydney; Public Health Lead and Node Leader for Mass Gathering Medicine, Marie Bashir Institute, University of Sydney; Honorary Life Fellow, St Andrew's College within the University of Sydney; Senior Member and College Research Associate, Wolfson College, University of Cambridge

Biographical details:
I studied medicine in Cambridge and during my junior doctor years was very interested in both neurology and infectious diseases. Clinically I specialised in medical microbiology, keeping a particular interest in neurological infections. For the past 3 years I have been in Saudi Arabia developing a pathogen genomics laboratory where I have gained first-hand experience of second generation sequencing and bioinformatics.

Research interests:
Infectious diseases and medical microbiology are undergoing the most significant shift since PCR was introduced. By the end of this decade, sequencing will have become the main option when investigating any outbreak or infection. I study the interface between genomics as a pure science and its translation into clinical and public health benefits.

At present I am examining the worldwide genomics of tuberculosis, the use of sequencing to characterise MRSA strains and the genomic variations in BCG vaccine strains used around the globe.

Pamela S. Hinds

Dr. Hinds is currently the Director of the Department of Nursing Research and Quality Outcomes and Co-Director of the Center for Translational Science at Children's National Health System in Washington, D.C., and a Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University in Washington, D. C. She is an adjunct professor for the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing, Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing, and the University of Maryland, College of Nursing.

Kai-Uwe Hinrichs

A biogeochemist studying the interactions between microbial life and the carbon cycle on a range of spatial, temporal and molecular scales. Interested in which and how microbes shape element cycles and what the related environmental consequences are.

Current research foci encompass the marine deep biosphere, methane biogeochemistry, life in extreme environments, development of new analytical protocols for the analysis of organic trace constituents in geological sample matrices, prokaryotic membrane lipid taxonomy, and the study of paleoenvironments.
