Summary

Dr. Tiessen earned a PhD in Plant Biology from the University of Heidelberg, working at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Germany. He made a postdoctoral stay at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT in Spanish) before joining CINVESTAV Irapuato as Head of the Laboratory of Metabolomics and Molecular Plant Physiology. He is an expert in plant physiology and plant breeding. His research is diverse, ranging from studies that seek to elucidate the primary plant metabolism (synthesis and degradation of sucrose and starch; redox regulation and signaling sugars), until the establishment of innovative methodologies for genetic improvement of corn (Vitamaize), particularly of traits related to drought tolerance and nutritional quality of the grain (carbohydrates, carotenoids, anthocyanins and amino acids).
