Field Study Permissions

The following information was supplied relating to field study approvals (i.e., approving body and any reference numbers):

In this area of study, plant management is allowed, including plant species harvesting. Taraxacum species studied are not protected by local law.

In Poland, issues related to nature protection are regulated by the Nature Conservation Act of 16 April 2004 (Dz. U. z 2020 r. poz. 55). Article 36 of the said Act states that in the Natura 2000 area no type of activity is limited, including economic, agricultural, forestry, fishing, etc., as long as it does not adversely affect the conservation status of natural habitats. Coastal grasslands in NW Poland, within the Natura 2000 area PLH320018 are habitats that require regular human activity, including grazing and mowing. In Poland, only in two types of protected areas are there restrictions on free access, i.e. in national parks and nature reserves (Art. 15.1.24), but in our case, this article does not apply, because the research area is outside the area of any nature reserve or national park.

For these reasons, no permission for conducting the research or collecting material was needed.
