Effects of rumen bypass melatonin feeding (RBMF) on milk quality and mastitis of Holstein cows
Dunxian Tan –– The authors reported a new method to deal with the cow mastitis which is convenient and safe. If the results are confirmed, it is valuable for the diary farm to improve diary quality.
Impact of digital video analytics on accuracy of chemobehavioural phenotyping in aquatic toxicology
Jörg Oehlmann –– Because behaviorual endpoints are increasingly considered in ecotoxicological studies, the question and potential impacts of different data processing tools and software are important and relevant to come to valid results.
Evolutionary persistence in Gunnera and the contribution of southern plant groups to the tropical Andes biodiversity hotspot
Luis Eguiarte –– Gunnera is a genus of plants that have fascinated scientist for a long time, in particular for the very large leaves of some species and because its symbiotic relationship with the nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria Nostoc. For a many years, some botanists suspected it to be a very old, primitive genus, perhaps basal in the phylogeny of the Angiosperms. While latter molecular phylogenies did not support this position, this paper shows that indeed Gunnera is an old genus, with a complex evolutionary and phylogeographic history, and a recent radiation in the Andes. All these new results are relevant for understanding why the Neotropics have so many plant species, more than any other similar region in the planet.
Molecular phylogenetics of swimming crabs (Portunoidea Rafinesque, 1815) supports a revised family-level classification and suggests a single derived origin of symbiotic taxa
Mohammad Shamsur Rahman –– very much fantastic work in the field of taxonomy, both in classical and molecular approach!
Translating genomics into practice for real-time surveillance and response to carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae: evidence from a complex multi-institutional KPC outbreak
Nicholas Loman –– This is a really well worked example of how whole genome sequencing is transforming public health surveillance of infectious diseases.
Introgression between ecologically distinct species following increased salinity in the Colorado Delta- Worldwide implications for impacted estuary diversity
Therese Markow –– It's a first and the data are very strong/
Genome-wide identification of ABA receptor PYL family and expression analysis of PYLs in response to ABA and osmotic stress in Gossypium
Pankaj Jaiswal –– It contributes to PYL gene family annotation in cotton.
Cell wall composition and lignin biosynthetic gene expression along a developmental gradient in an Australian sugarcane cultivar
Pankaj Jaiswal –– It is an important piece of work describing the cell wall composition from an agronomic food crop that is also a potential bioenergy feedstock.
Adult zebra finches rehearse highly variable song patterns during sleep
Lesley Rogers –– Rehearsal during sleep and memory consolidation is a big issue. This is an excellent paper.
A massive update of non-indigenous species records in Mediterranean marinas
Mark Costello –– Due to the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean has more introduced species than any other sea area. However, there are often misidentifications and species suggested as "invasive" which are not (they may be rarely recorded but native). Thus a synthesis of this knowledge is timely and of wide international interest.
