Wouldn't it be useful to use ORCIDs to link modern authors to taxonomic names and publication?
If this would be valuable, wouldn't it also be useful to create a database of dead taxonomic authors that would either inherit the ORCID where there was one or if not generate another unique ID? Obviously, this would require storing a certain amount of biographic data and would require curation to deal with author name synonymy, duplication and disambiguation.
