Microbiologist B.Sc and Bioinformatician

I had recently, moved back to Colombia, where I am applying bioinformatics coupled to genomics and metagenomics to improve agricultural and livestock production. Our goal is to design technologies that could be applied by small farmers to increase productivity, improving their quality of life.

I completed a Master's Degree in Microbial Ecology at the University of Puerto Rico, then joined the Doctoral Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with an emphasis in bioinformatics, genomics, metagenomics and metatranscriptomics, where I worked mainly on the effect of the horizontal transfer of genes in the adaptation of bacteria to multiple environments. After the Doctorate, I worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Texas at Austin working on the coevolution of commensal bacteria in the human gastrointestinal tract and other hominoids (chimpanzees, gorillas and bonobos). My research in Corpoica focuses on the use of latest sequencing tools in agricultural and livestock systems to improve their production and quality
