Pauline Frizelle
Summary
Pauline has over 15 years experience working as a senior speech and language therapist
and former manager of the speech and language therapy department at Enable Ireland, Cork, Ireland – providing services for children with a primary physical disability. She worked for many years with the Brothers of Charity, Lota, where she gained specialist experience in learning disability and Autism. She then began working on a consultancy basis, engaging in staff training, carrying out court assessments and working with children with specific language impairment. In 2008 Pauline was the first speech and Language therapist to be awarded the HRB (Health Research Board) fellowship for the therapeutic professions to complete her PhD. Her topic of interest was ‘Investigating relative clauses in children with specific language impairment’. She completed this in 2011 and began lecturing and working as a postdoctorate research fellow at University College Cork. She was awarded UCC's strategic research fund to carry out some pilot work in the development of a computerised assessment of complex syntax. She was then awarded an ASSISTID DOCTRID Marie Curie research fellowship to continue this work and to administer this assessment with children with Autism and Intellectual disability. Pauline is currently based in the University of Oxford where she is developing this assessment. She is working in the OSCCI group under Professor Dorothy Bishop.
