Public Health Department
I am currently working as the Professor & Head of the Bacterial Pathogenicity Research Lab. of the Department of Public Health, at the Faculty of Medicine, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from 1991. I am teaching the 1st & 2nd Grade Medical Students. I was accredited as Tutor of the Graduate Program of Medical, Odontology & Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM from 1998-2009. At present my research fields are phenotypic and genotypic laboratory characterization of clinical strains of staphylococci (Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis), isolated from patients with nosocomial infections from diverse Mexican hospitals, Molecular detection of antibiotic determinants (mecA) and virulence factors (biofilm, modulins, etc.) in clinical staphylococci strains. I am also working in collaboration with other national research groups, characterization of MRSA by PFGE for clone’s determination and DNA-sequencing of clinical MRSA & MRSE strains, for detection of specific virulome and resistome genes.
