Susana De la Torre-Zavala, PhD is a professor and researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), specializing in microbial biotechnology, genomics, and natural product discovery. Her research focuses on extremophilic and extremotolerant Actinobacteria, with an emphasis on their potential as sources of novel antimicrobials to combat antimicrobial resistance. She integrates genomic and metagenomic approaches to explore microbial diversity in extreme environments, particularly in the Cuatro Ciénegas Basin, aiming to uncover new bioactive compounds and understand microbial adaptations to oligotrophic and extreme conditions. Her work also extends to the application of machine learning models in predicting bioactive peptides and microbial metabolic capabilities.
