Summary
My academic training was in Mathematical Statistics, and my PhD (1973) is in abstract multivariate analysis (solving a problem that no has ever had in half a century). My research first expanded into ornithology, then zoology and now into biodiversity as a whole. It is best described as "statistical ecology" or "ecological statistics". I am Senior Research Scholar at the University of Cape Town and am Director of the Biodiversity and Development Institute. Energy goes into developing "citizen science" databases in a way that they are amenable to statistical analysis, and in developing new tools for these databases.
