                    Summary
It started with a bachelors degree in mathematics and statistics in 2000. After working at a number of different things I completed a masters degree in pure mathematics followed by a PhD in bioinformatics. My earlier research centred on using bioinformatics and statistical methods to analyse, assemble and annotate DNA sequence data. These days I generally try to apply these skills to improve understand environmental microbial communities, particularly those communities which cannot be cultured.
