Summary

I am a Reader in Distributed Computing at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, and a Principal Researcher at the University Research Centre for Parallel Computing. I hold a PhD in Distributed Computing, and MSc Degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering.
I have co-authored over 90 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, high profile conference proceedings and as chapters of edited books. I have been involved in several European and UK funded research project as principal investigator or co-investigator. Most recently I have been acting as project director and scientific coordinator for the European CloudSME (Cloud-based Simulation Platform for Manufacturing and Engineering - http://cloudsme.eu/) project that developed a Cloud-based simulation solution for manufacturing and engineering SMEs. I am Chair of the Advisory Board of CloudSME UG that has been established by ten European stakeholders to exploit the results of the project.

The University of Westminster is a public research university in London, United Kingdom. Westminster's academic activities are organised into seven faculties and schools, within which there are around 45 departments. Westminster had an income of £170.4 million in 2012/13, of which £4.5 million was from research grants and contracts. The Centre for Parallel Computing (CPC) is a distinguished university research centre at the University of Westminster. The Centre has two missions. First, it is a centre of excellence in high-performance parallel computing. Second, it collaborates and supports research communities and teams within and outside the University to create and run scientific experiments on computing infrastructures. The Centre’s major research activities incorporate research in Distributed Computing Infrastructures, particularly in cloud computing and desktop and service grids. As high-performance computing and data intensive applications are gaining strategic importance in all research disciplines it is crucial that CPC supports inter-disciplinary activities. Most recently the CPC coordinated the FP7 CloudSME project, which developed a cloud–based simulation platform for manufacturing and engineering SMEs. CPC’s research and development achievements also included the Grid Execution Management for Legacy Code Applications (GEMLCA) solution and the SHIWA Submission Service to enable execution of legacy code applications as services. CPC made a major contribution to the development of Coarse-Grained Interoperability (CGI) to support sharing workflows of different workflow systems. The CGI concept uses these services and the repository framework designed and implemented by CPC. Examples of the repositories based on this framework are the SCI-BUS Portlet Repository and the SHIWA Workflow Repository. The latest research focuses on cloud orchestration, especially at the level of cloud applications.
