Summary

I am a male Malaysian of Baba Chinese ancestry from Malacca, Malaysia. I graduated with a BSc (Honours) degree in Genetics in 1971 from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and with a PhD degree in Genetics and also a Certificate in Population Studies from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, USA in 1975. I served as a Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor at Universiti Putra Malaysia for over 39 years. I am a Fellow of the Academy of Science, Malaysia. My research interest is in Molecular Population Genetics. My research findings provide fundamental population genetics and ecotoxicological information on Southeast Asia’s diverse human populations as well as on her flora and fauna and the environment. The results of my research work can be found in over 500 papers published by my collaborators and I in international and national scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. My expertise also includes scientific writing and editing. I was Editor-in-Chief of the Pertanika Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science from 1997 to 2000 and from 2007 to February 2015. I am currently a member of the Editorial Boards of the Academy of Science Malaysia Journal, Asian Australasian Journal of Animal Science, the Science Journal of Sulaymania University and the Pertanika Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science. I am an Associate Editor of the journals Gene and Metagene.
