PeerJ Author & Reviewer

Summary

Dr. Ravikanth is a Fellow (Associate Professor) at ATREE and is in the Biosystematics Program. Ravikanth has obtained his Ph.D from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. Dr. Ravikanth has undertaken a number of research projects related to the DNA barcoding of medicinal plants, conservation and species recovery of economically important and/or endangered species. His work has largely been funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Department of Science and Technology. He has published more than 100 research papers in national and international journals. Ravikanth has been actively involved in developing DNA barcodes for a number of medicinal plants as well as amphibians. Using DNA barcodes for medicinal plants, Dr. Ravikanth and his group have assessed the adulteration in the medicinal plant trade in India. He is currently assessing the impacts of harvesting on the genetic structure of plant populations. Ravikanth’s research interests include Phylogenetics, Biogeography, Conservation Genetics and Chemical Ecology.
