In this peer-reviewed study the effects of grazing on soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics, as well as the compensatory reaction of the grazed plants, was studied in the Serengeti (home to large numbers of wildebeest, zebra and Thomsons gazelles for example). Ten years of data were considered, and the results suggest that compensatory plant responses to grazing are an important means of how herbivores might increase SOC in tropical grasslands.
