Wake sorting, selective predation and biogenic mixing
In this new study, the author examines whether large schools of marine animals can exhibit cooperative behavior and act like giant sieves grading zooplankton through individual swimmer's wakes, thus focusing the 'best' prey in predictable positions which are exploited by following schoolers.
