Citing Software Versions! #citesoftware
Last but not least, but in particular when code is of more general utility (a Stata or R package for a new econometric technique), citing the software is a must (FORCE11 Software Citation Principles https://t.co/my5ly8NW5A)
@EikoFried @dsquintana The analogy is not mine :) I think I heard it from @benmarwick, inspired on the Software Citation Principles https://t.co/pDpOEOEULK https://t.co/S1w1CsYOcc
@LisaDeBruine For what it's worth, see https://t.co/GZE0jI7onh for principles and then the products listed in https://t.co/aAfK3U09hH for implementation information
@choldgraf Here's maybe more than you wanted to know?
I've seen mostly CC licenses. I tend to recommend the most permissive one folks are comfortable with (ideally CC-0). https://t.co/AZDR6XOhO4
Back in 2015-16, the FORCE11 Software Citation Working Group (co-led by @arfon @danielskatz @kyleniemeyer) developed and published a set of Software Citation Principles (https://t.co/GZE0jI7onh) 3/12
@DrSirianni @MolSSI_NSF @grimalkina @analog_ashley @livecomsj @jctc_papers For publishing and citation, JOSS (@JOSS_TheOJ) should also be a consideration here, along with work done by @force11rescomm, @ResearchSoft, and @resdatall, such as https://t.co/GZE0jI7onh & https://t.co/eY9E8PlBgj & https://t.co/lzgbW3izZD
Great news! Our (@arfon @danielskatz @kyleniemeyer @force11rescomm) Software Citation Principles article is one of the top 5 most viewed #DigitalLibraries and #SoftwareEngineering articles published in @PeerJCompSci (now Web of Science listed) https://t.co/yTNCoEKiJr #OpenAccess
@hpcchris @BertieArbon I agree, place is generally less important than citing correctly according to https://t.co/JQlZeHaCoZ. Ideally includes PID, version number, pub date, or next most specific options (see paper). And real authors if you can find them, or XY Project. And added to the references!
@mblondel_ml @brandondamos Great to see citation of software that made the research possible! To further reproducibility, and honour the role of SW in research itself, the Software Citation Principles suggest to cite the software itself (not a paper), and the specific versions used: https://t.co/JQlZeHaCoZ
