Summary

Professor in zoology and evolution at the degree courses in Biology and Natural Sciences of the Federico II University of Naples. He carries out his research on species and populations of wildlife studying the adaptive responses to different selective pressures. He is the author of over 50 publications in national and international scientific journals. His studies combine interest in animal biology, phylogeny and evolution with applications in the field of biodiversity management and conservation. He has always spent particular attention to the dissemination of his studies by personally developing educational projects such as museum installations and web-learning (Mooc, Edx). To make the studies on model species applicable, he carries out consultancy activities, in planning problems, for territorial bodies such as parks, provincial and regional administrations
He win the 2014 Journal of Zoology ‘Paper of the Year’ Award.

Biology
Zoology. I investigate the evolutionary processes involving isolated or rapidly expanding populations. I am particularly interested upon specific adaptations in populations under strong selective pressures. My main models are varied: mammals, such as wild boar, otter, reptiles, such as lizards and birds in some cases. I make use of field and laboratory data and techniques such as observation, morphology and genetics. I try to realize my studies so that result can serve as useful tools for conservation biology.
