He received his Bachelor degree in Biomedical Science with First-Class Honour from the PolyU in 2006. Hereafter, he started his academic research on drug resistance mechanism in Mycobacterium tuberculosis in HKU Microbiology, where he received his PhD degree in 2010.
In recent years, Dr. SIU and his team have identified several novel genetic regions that associated with multidrug resistant TB circulating in China and Hong Kong. The findings also help him to get the Keystone Symposia Scientific Award and local and international research funding. As a registered Medical Technologist in Hong Kong, he is very keen on the development of advanced molecular assays for rapid identification of resistance determinants in M. tuberculosis.
