Abdullah M. Al-Sadi
Summary
Abdullah M. Al-Sadi is a Professor of Plant Pathology and former Dean of the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences (2018–2024) at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman. He is currently a Professor at the University of Al Dhaid, UAE, and is internationally recognized as an expert in Plant Biosecurity, a consultant in research strategies, and an expert in higher education accreditation. He earned his BSc (1999) and MSc (2002) from SQU and his PhD (2007) from the University of Queensland, Australia, progressing through five successive academic ranks, from Demonstrator in 1999 to Full Professor in 2020.
Leadership: Al-Sadi served as Head of the Department of Crop Sciences (2013–2018) before becoming Dean of the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences at SQU (2018–2024). He led 30+ national and international committees, contributed to 50+ strategic committees, and steered the accreditation of nine programs via ASIIN (Germany). He chaired the development of SQU’s Operational Plan for Research & Innovation (2021–2025), led the development of two MSc and two postgraduate diploma programs, and contributed to the development of a BSc program.
Research & Publications: His work focuses on plant biosecurity and the diagnosis and management of diseases in arid regions. He has led 100+ national teams, collaborated on 50+ international studies, and published 520+ papers (358+ indexed in Scopus; cumulative WoS Impact Factor ≈992). He has supervised 72 MSc and PhD students, organized conferences and workshops, and secured/participated in 58 funded projects totaling ≈USD 6.3 M. He has also provided research consultancies in plant disease diagnosis and management, biosecurity and phytosanitary regulations, and food security at both national and international levels.
Awards & Recognitions: Al-Sadi has received 47 national and international awards, including His Majesty the Sultan of Oman’s Order of Commendation for Excellence in Research, Innovation & the 4th Industrial Revolution, and Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation – Influential Figure (2022). He has been listed among the world’s top 2% most highly cited scholars for five consecutive years (2020–2024, Elsevier, Scopus) and recognized as the most productive researcher in SQU’s history (among more than 4,000 researchers; Scopus, 1986–2024).
