Summary

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. At the UPMC Eye Center, I am the Director of the Glaucoma and Cataract Section, the Director of Electronic Health Records and the Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship.

Clinically, I am specialized in Glaucoma and Cataract care. I provide new, minimally invasive glaucoma procedures that are bleb-free. I have very comprehensive experience with trabectome surgery and published extensively on our outcomes.

In my basic research, my lab is focused on bioengineering of the ocular outflow system to lower eye pressure (NIH K08EY022737). I spearheaded gene therapy for glaucoma with lentiviral vectors and developed a technique to permanently genetically modify the outflow tract of the eye, the site of the primary pathology in glaucoma. Our current research is focused on using these tools to reverse engineer a working outflow tract with stem cells as a novel treatment of glaucoma.

I have authored more than 90 articles, book chapters, and patents and am a reviewer for 14 scientific journals. I am a member of the American Glaucoma Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
