Summary
Professor Olubukola Oluranti Babalola (Pr.Sci.Nat, MASSAF, FTWAS, FAS, FAAS. FISC), a visiting professor at imperial College London, a B2 NRF rated scientist, is a graduate of the NWU Business School, South Africa. Her dissertation was on Women in STEM leadership. She obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology with the Fellowship of IITA & the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She has >22 years of research experience in rhizosphere metagenomics. She is the Research Director of Food Security & Safety at NWU, the Vice President of TWAS (Africa region), the Vice President of OWSD (Africa region), the Foreign Secretary of the Nigerian Academy of Science, and without reservation, the Head and Principal Investigator of a Microbial Biotech Research Lab. Her lab is a mini United Nations, with students from within and outside Africa making a substantial contribution to science, her original research motivation. She is a member of the editorial board for BMC Microbiology (Elsevier) & Biochemistry & Biophysics Reports (Elsevier). Her team has received many awards, including being the finalist, GenderInSite 2020 and Clarivate's highly cited research top 1% for the field years 2022 and 2023 and SAWISA 2024. She is passionate about capacity building & has graduated 37 Ph.D.'s, 25 MSCs, & numerous Hons students. She is a prolific author with 400 publications. In 2018, she delivered her professorial inaugural lecture. She has over 56 certificates in her professional interest areas from the Univ. of California, Berkeley, USA, Univ. of Mauritius, Reduit, NWU, South Africa, and Bradford Univ., UK, to mention a few. She is a 2021 fellow of TWAS and ASSAF. Her wealth of international experience spans the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe, & Oceania.
