Summary

Dr Ryan's research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of amino acid transporters. In particular, she studies transporters for the neurotransmitters glutamate and glycine that play an important role in regulating normal neurotransmission in the brain. Dr Ryan uses a variety of biochemical and molecular techniques, including electrophysiology and structural biology, to try and understand the mechanism of transport and also how drugs interact with these proteins.
