Summary

I am a biologist and paleontologist, with a Master’s degree in Zoology (University of São Paulo, Brazil) and a PhD in Paleontology (University of Tübingen, Germany). I currently work as a curator at LUOMUS, the Finnish Museum of Natural History. Previously, I was a researcher at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and, before that, a curator at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
My main research interest is mollusks, and in particular, terrestrial gastropods. I am interested in describing the world’s land snails and in understanding their evolutionary relationships, fossil record, and biogeographic history. Thus, I work with both fossil and living animals, in the areas of taxonomy /systematics, paleoecology and biogeography. My work with recent animals is often relevant for conservation efforts. I also have experience with the curatorship of fossil and recent museum collections (of mollusks, naturally).
I firmly believe that one of researchers’ main goals is (or should be) to transmit science to the public, so I’m often involved in science communication and outreach. My other interests span ornithology, archaeology (especially Egyptology), mythology and general geek culture.
