Summary

Director of Research and Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Environmental Genomics, Departamento de Genética y Biología Molecular at the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del IPN (Cinvestav). He received his B. Sc. with a major in Microbiology in 1986 from the “Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas del IPN” in Mexico City, and in 1992 obtained his Ph. D. in Molecular Biology, from the “Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados”. In 1993 he made a research stay at the “Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique” in Paris, France, and from 1994 to 1997 he received postdoctoral training at the “Department of Microbiology, University of Connecticut Health Center”, Farmington USA. He joined Cinvestav as a Faculty member back in 1997. He works on research projects related to the typification of microbial diversity in environmental, biotechnological, and human-disease systems; projects about the profiling of expression levels of genes associated with Type 2 Diabetes and obesity in Mexican population; dynamics of functional protein complexes that regulate gene expression in bacteria, and work on anti-cancer and therapies in mouse models. Member of the Mexican National Researcher System (SNI III), has authored and coauthored 85 original peer-review papers with more than 1000 citations; 3 book chapters, and 75 in extenso papers in international meetings. He has also completed the direction of 6 Ph. D.; 20 M. Sc.; and 12 B. Sc. theses.
